I drive in Sarasota, FL. We’ve had this for a while. It has completely ruined my ability to survive. Uber XL has always paid $1.12 per mile, however now, long trips on XL pays .76¢ per mile which is Uber X rates. But even short trips which end in a busy area now pay less. Because I get no trips outside of downtown or Siesta key, all my trips end in a busy area. So my average short trip on XL has always paid $9-$10. They now pay $6-8. It has destroyed my ability to earn enough. And on top of that, gas has doubled in the last year, but my earnings are around 60% of what they used to be. I’m giving it one more week and that’s it. Trust me when I say these changes are horrible. Up front pricing and info is great, but they hide the rates per mile and per minute so there’s no way to know what you’re getting.

This has been being piloted in Jacksonville, FL and let me tell you the drivers are taken advantage of. This is in no benefit to the drivers only benefits Uber. With this platform Uber steal 45-60% of the fare, especially on long rides. Once the smart drivers catch on there will be a lot of cherry picking rides and a lot of riders waiting or not picked up. You can definitely make money if you don’t accept every ride and avoid the long trips to the airport. I have been driving since the beginning in 2014 and have seen the cooperate greed slowly infect the platform. With gas prices up, Uber greed and cheap ass non tippers, there are a lot of good drivers that will be moving on to other platforms to make money. It is very sad because Uber was a great money maker for both the company and the driver…….not so much anymore. Rant over!!

As a driver for over 7 years in Califirnia and almost 10K rides, i have seen it all. Most changes are designed to benefit Uber but not drivers. The biggest change i would like to see for drivers is to be paid time and distance from the time you accept the ride until the rider is dropped off.
Recently I have been noticing I have been getting short rides with very long pickup times and distance, even as much as 20 miles away for a minimum ride. If i don't accept it, they penalize me and they often resend the same ride.
I have learned that Uber is not to be trusted with much of anything.

The fact they are hiding the breakdown tells me uber is sketchy as usual

It’s getting too expensive to operate a vehicle in Southern California. Fares are too low. With most Jobs starting @ $17 plus per hour, the options to leave ride-sharing are becoming easily available

This just hit the St. Louis market yesterday. On average, drivers are receiving 20% to 25% less pay than previously per mile. Pretty much all the drivers here hate it and spent yesterday frustrated wasting time and money on gas, while receiving very few if any trips. Passengers were also complaining that their fairs on Uber went up in price compared to previously. This is only benefiting Uber.

The fair balance BS sounds like they trying to lower pay to the driver. Not showing pay rate is illegal according to DOT which they do fall under.

Been driving for Uber for 6 years in the DC market. This seems like it would be good, but I dont really trust Uber. They typically dont truly care for drivers, only their own profits.

I’m in Jacksonville fl and upfront pricing sucks! I’m making
30% less and Uber is taking up to 70% of a Fare. They added just a
Few pennies on short rides and dropped long distance by at least 25%!

I drive Uber and Lyft full time, 2500 miles a week, in Houston. In the first day I made 10-20% less on EVERY trip. Absolutely horrible for drivers. Here we go Lyft, no more Uber. Previous 75% of my income was Uber, changing to Lyft. Made $17 an hour yesterday with Uber and when I swapped to Lyft, $30 per hour.

I'm in the San Diego market, and here's what I've been dealing with since the beginning of the year. However, IRONICALLY, I opened up my Uber app this morning, and things are back to normal.

I haven't been able to see my trip breakdown since the beginning of the year. I've been able to see my trip details and earnings, but I haven't been able to see the breakdown for the trip. Why is Uber moving back to being non- transparent about driver earnings? What are they trying to hide?

I'm wondering, what do they consider long trips, 10 minutes, 15, 30, 90+? Many of the trips here in rural Vermont are over 15 minutes. Sounds like a pay cut. I agree raise short rides

This all sounds like it MIGHT work in a large city, but I live in a smaller city and all I see is less money and more time driving to make them same money. They need to come up with pay based on market size because one size does not fit every city.

Starting next week my market will see upfront pricing and trip destinations. GOOD LUCK getting a ride out of the surged city going into the ghetto. Better find someone to walk with!

Why lower rates for long rides? We still use are gas.. and gas is always going up... That doesn't make sense

Thanks Chris! I have told Uber through surveys to make passenger see how much driver earns. That because passenger leaves less tips due to misleading info. Uber offers to the passenger

My partner used to do a lot of rides for Uber up until early last year, when Uber took away up front pricing and trip route info for rides in California (unless you were willing to do some really crappy ones to keep the 5/10 acceptance rate.). Now she doesn't do any, because without upfront pricing it's not worth it especially when you get a lot of ping requests from afar. I feel like Uber abandoned her.

I started driving in February of 2021. At that time uber was paying a decent amount for a weekday (mon - thurs) and weekend (fri - sun) quest, plus they had at least a couple 3 consecutive ride quests daily. Since then they have continued to lower the amounts they pay for the quests and had done away with the weekday and weekend all together, just before Christmas. They screw the drivers as inflation rises. Fuel is almost double what it was when I started!

Uber is creating competition amongst the drivers. It is definitely paying less. You are still able to see what uber is paid overall. The shorter trips are slightly more; in Columbus a short trip minimum was $3.20 now you will see between $4 and $6, the longer trips are significantly less. A ride to Cincinnati used to be $120 now that is $65, during normal times. The pay almost seems totally random change also. Another set back is that you only have about 5 seconds to process the ride information before its gone.
