Not quite the entire story, but definitely part of the problem experienced for Arsenal.

Arsenal were unable to stifle United completely in United's first phase, and that was as a result of Arsenal's press not being a suffocating as usual. This combined with the rotations in United's first phase which was problematic for Arsenal to track upfront, and this made Arsenal's press less intense as they were forced to sit back. United were not able to play through Arsenal's lines though, but they were happy to go direct to Arsenal's las line instead, to great effect.

You are right in the way United combined in attack, very efficient and we were not fast enough in that respect.

As for United stopping Arsenal's build up... I dont think United succeeded there, despite being very aggressive in their press. Arsenal were able to easily play through United's pressing, overload the left hand side, and then switch the ball quickly to Saka on the right, creating many 1v1 situations with Shaw for example. Arsenal should have buried United in the first 30 minutes based on those tactics alone.

United are looking better with their ability to go direct, if they are given time in the first phase. But if Arsenal or any other pressing team can break United in their first phase, they will struggle. This is why United need a big target man, who allows them to go direct against teams like Arsenal, Liverpool and City.

Other than the 2 goals scored, it was an even match... It will be interesting to see Arsenal v United in a few weeks, when both teams will be playing at a higher level or intensity and understanding.

Agreed and arteta has done a brilliant job which reflects in him being there in the title race…. We are still playing in a better version of Solskjaer football…. We aren’t there yet but still finished third, this is the second year for eth, we are getting there…. But tbh Saka has been phenomenal for arsenal without him, arsenal would have been lucky to finish in the top four

What arsenal really need to change everything is 4 more signings, RW to back up Saka, LW to compete with Martineli, No 9 to compete with Jesus not Nkethia and another GK to compete with Ramsdale ... Easy balls always go pass him....the reason why Newcastle were in the top 4 wasn't cos they played well, but cos Dy had a very good goal keeper then coupled with their back four...they don't conceive goals or make silly mistakes... And they score more due to the versatility of the front line

Arsenal was very disjointed in this match. They are still learning each other's movements.

Aside Jesus and Saka .... The rest strikers are average.... They are not really threat to defenders that's why some top teams can easily press them without fear

We need LB to cover for Shaw’s inadequacies. He always backs off the attacker which puts pressure on the entire defensive line. Arsenal somehow failed to capitalize on Shaw’s inability to defend.

United hardly had a touch of the ball before they scored on the first attempt on a Ramsdale mistake. Before that Arsenal has 2 clear chances to score a goal. Frankly United played more or less the same way they played last season ...Ten Hag has implemented a compact defensive scheme at United as he did at Ajax that is hard to break down and effective against possession oriented teams like City and Arsenal. That system would be properly tested next season after opponents adapt to neutralise it.
