The island of Zakynthos is quite large – 405 km2, and its coastline, broken by bays and capes, is measured at 123 km, and almost the entire coast is open to access to the sea.
The air of the island, which the Venetians called the "Flower of the Levant", is filled with intoxicating aromas of the sea breeze, coniferous forests, juniper thickets and spicy herbs, fruits of citrus trees and vines growing in abundance here. The island still preserves the aristocratic spirit of the Renaissance and Enlightenment, when famous musicians, poets, and painters lived and worked here.
