I loved this film. Gerwig's energy was bursting right off the screen. It is also a tale that all can relate to in some sort of way. Whether it's hardships, a never-ending friendship, or it is to hone, practice, and do craft that you love, there's something in it for everyone. My First Criterion and I can't wait to get many more.

I really liked this film for the way it portrayed the lives of bourgeois urban twentysomethings as a sort of Sartrean hell, where values, meaning, morality and affect are all swallowed up by a bottomless void of narcissism, irony, superficiality as they live out a purgatorial endless adolescence. I think Baumbach intended it to be a little more sympathetic to its subjects, but that's what I got out of it.

Saw this on DVD finally last nite (after 2 years released) great film with incredible dialogue, can see why director and G. Gerwig got married, she is even more beautiful in black and white. G.G. is the new "it" girl in film, can't wait to see her next film, she was also fantastic with  Ben Stiller in "Greenburg", another Baumbach film.

Still though, I officially have no idea how the Criterion selection process works. Every other new film from Baumbach, Soderbergh or Wes Anderson gets an immediate Criterion release, while great directors like the Coen brothers, David Lynch and Paul Thomas Anderson have yet to see a single film from their decades-long careers released in the Collection? What gives?
