People talk about stats but really, they just mean goals and assists. I remember looking at their best seasons and comparing all the stats and it just showed what the eye test already told me. Salah had twice as many goals but hazard had a couple more assists. Hazard had twice as many touches, passes, passes into the final third, chances created. About three times as many dribbles and a better success rate. Even defensive stats Hazard was slightly higher which did surprised me. Salah did have a slightly better shot accuracy and shots on target rate though. So what does this tell us? Exactly what the eye test already showed. Two very different players and those stats sum up exactly their different style of play. Hazard drops deep to create whereas Salah always looks to get in behind. That's why many of their stats are polar opposites and in some areas outperform the other by two or three times. There's no actual answer to this debate because football is about balance and every team needs a mix. I do feel that Salah also benefited massively from being with Klopp and a strong team whilst in his prime. Hazards highest goal contribution season was 31 and that was with Sarri and hardly a top chelsea team. Would be interesting to see prime Salah in that Chelsea Mourinho team 2014/15. So honestly I do still think Hazard is a better player overall in most areas (which the stats do support), but if Salah is utilised perfectly in a good team then he can be more productive. We sadly never saw Hazard in an elite prem team that liked to attack. They were always defensive which is probably why his numbers suffer.
