Here are Jack and Joe's top 6 secrets from the Bike Industry. Jack and Joe love reading your comments on all of the videos uploaded to BikeRadar's YouTube channel, and if there’s one thing they've learnt, it’s that people are sometimes suspicious of the bike industry.

Common complaints are that bike manufacturers are trying to sell you more bikes (spoiler, they are), that all innovation is just marketing and nothing else.

Well in this video, they're going to tell you which of these rumours are true, and which ones are false. Why they matter, and also why they may not.

They'll also share a little bit about what they've learnt along the way, and hopefully this may help you in the future.

[Please note Jack & Joe filmed this video long before any social distancing measures came into place, hence why they are so close together. Thanks, BikeRadar]

Best double act since Laurel and Hardy. Great to get honest videos from a bike channel rather than just advertising.

Nobody cuts Joe's hair. He just gets it caught in his ceramic derailleur pulleys whenever he needs a trim. Great content as always gents.

105 equipped bikes are all I planning buying in the future. I would rather spend money going somewhere cool to ride then having something cool to ride.

Re: doing what the pros do ... unless you have a team of personal mechanics at your immediate disposal, don't.

Also, the problems people are having with press fit BBs is due to the shoddy manufacturing tolerances of carbon frames. Which is a direct attempt by major manufacturers to cut costs and sell more, quality be damned.

On a properly constructed frame done to proper spec press fit is just as good if not superior to threaded

Everyone seems to promote bikes for speed. Very few videos actually engage riding bikes for touring or commuting.

I love your practical approach to cycling. In my opinion, a good bike is a loved bike.

I always feel bad when GCN doesn't give a well ridden bike a super nice. Those bikes have more character and have likely seen more use than the pristine super nice bikes.

Always remember a good rider on an old bike is still quicker than an average rider on a new bike

Great vid.
I'm loving the whole plus tyre thing.
I love hardtails and because I'm 50 and all my bones therefore have turned to chalk, the plus tyre gives me the cush I need... for now 🙏

The problem is what bike do you buy :-
A summer road bike for long sportives. Like velo Essex - about £3k used once a week in dry spring/summer months.
A autumnal/winter wet weather cyclo-cross build about £2k used mainly for winter base miles training but occasionally for gravel racing.
MTB XC 29er for off road fun in bike parks and the odd summer blast £3k
The triathlon time trail machine £1.5k used for those 3 times a year challenges from your piers.
Other possible bikes include one off for bucket list events (dirty kanza)
All this adds up to a £5k maintenance and upkeep whole in the bank

Superbly informative!!

And for people starting biking ... You can of course get an affordable model to start with. Just make sure your frame is of a good quality (brand) ... Then over time you can invest in higher quality gear like wheels, gearsets, etc.

Oooh, you can still sign me up for plus tires. If anyone has a plus size hardtail that they think the bike industry missed you can send that to me
