Surprisingly, in Black Myth: Wukong, you’re not playing as the legendary Monkey King, Sun Wukong, from “Journey to the West”. Instead, you step into the shoes of the 'Destined One,' a humble monkey who resembles Wukong but embarks on his own journey. Minor spoilers, but in the beginning of the game, you are shown what actually happens to Sun Wukong, in which he fights Yang Jian, or Erlang Shen, the God of War with Three Eyes, in which he is defeated and presumably dies in battle. Time passes and as the Destined One, you are tasked by the descendants of the surviving Sun Wukong followers to find 6 different artifacts to presumably resurrect Sun Wukong and the actual plot of the game starts. Anyways, What are your thoughts on Black Myth: Wukong?

Wu kong is too powerfull the game will be easy as pie if we play as him, he doesnt even need a health bar

Honestly I think the Destined One is one of Wukong's hairs. Because everytime you die, you see a strand of hair.

We’re actually playing as a clone of wukong, before he fought 3 eyes. He plucked his hair and scatter it. It’s easy to miss because a lot of people are amazed at the intro.

Sun Wukong according to the myth was tricked into wearing a “crown” that could never be taken off. The “crown” could be used to weaken him by giving him headaches.

Sun Wukong also has powers to clone himself from the strands of his hair. So the destined one is just a strand of hair belonging to Sun Wukong himself. Sun Wukong “dies” but he makes sure to scatter his hair strand beforehand thereby hoping to have his clone the destined one, recollect all the relics and revive himself in the clone body with all his powers minus the “crown”.

This feels like in hollow knight, you don't control THE hollow knight, but "the knight" and in fact, the hollow knight is one of the final bosses

My theory is that the destined one is reincarnation of wukong. because wukong was told that his body got destroyed but his soul is still trapped in the stone, to revived him the protagonist needs to Collect all of 6 scattered artifacts and in the end of the game the destined one become one with him.

Here’s a note for the nerds and the curious

Wukong’s immortality isn’t just a single trick, he’s got multiple forms of it, which means you’d need to undo each one to actually kill him. Strength alone won’t do the job because Wukong is so strong that the only way to stop him is by sealing or imprisoning him. And guess what? Only the Great Buddha in all of heaven has the chops to do that.

Wukong also has a whole monkey village in the Mountain of Flower and Fruit, where he’s their king, having sprung from a rock, yes, this monkey son of a gun is born out of a rock who absorbed the essence of life around it like a sponge and turning it into, well, him.

He’s got two particularly annoying abilities, the 72 Transformations and the power to clone himself using his hair. These aren’t just flashy tricks, they’re part of his many immortality. With the 72 Transformations, he can turn into anything he wants to dodge death, and his hair clones act as backup lives, if he gets killed, he can switch with another one of his hair, if he even manages to get killed at all, and all of his hair clone can also do the same thing and share the same power as him.

So, with that in mind, in this game, we might be playing as one of his kin on a quest to retrieve their king, or maybe as one of Wukong’s clones who got weakened. Either way, i expect a wild ride when i manage to have my own console or gaming PC in the next 5 years with my salary. Yes, I'm a broke nerd.

I love the setup, it’s a nice build up to what he is becoming with each battle. Love the fact he gets a bit stronger and not to overly strong. Every boss fight is learning how to get around his opponent. Sweet job, I usually run from real challenging games but this one is actually fun.

After Sun Wukong dies, his body separates into 6 relics, which resemble the 6 senses in Buddism. The main character embarks on the journey to collect 5 relics which are taken by 5 yaoguai king and only 1 relic manages to escape which is the mind, the main character does not need to collect the 6th relic because he is the 6th relic which is why when the main character dies his body turns into a relic

When the main character death, he become a piece of hair,
I think the main character is one of his clone(wukong hair), thats why he use his hair as offering on shrine checkpoint,
When he die another hair(wukong's clone) replace him in shrine.

People who know the story of sun wukong know, that "the chosen one" is actually sun wukong. It only appears to not be the case to people who have no clue about the character and his story. So no, the player does play sun wukong. Its the same entity.

This Destined one is very unique. He is similar to Wukong but he Journeys differently with a calm collected heart.
