There are PLENTY of CPA's that specialize in tax and have a VAST amount of knowledge on the tax code. It is a portion of the exam and the CPA requires substantially more education and experience vs. the EA designation. An EA's focus is solely on tax, while a CPA is required to have knowledge and experience in tax, audit, financial reporting, and regulation. Both have authority to represent a client in front of the IRS. I'm not saying either designation is better than the other, but to say a CPA is someone that throws numbers together at the end of the year is false.

The EA is the next best thing for those who could not pass their CPA exams. No one in this industry ever asks if you are an EA. They always ask about the C about the P and about the A. Never try to compare anything in the accounting/tax field to a CPA license. However, an EA is better than nothing. I could be wrong, but I get the feeling this guy is trying to cope because everyday someone asks him "are you a CPA", and he then has to explain what an EA is.

Being a CPA and EA, i can tell you don't waste your time to becoming a CPA if you just want to focus on Taxation. All you need is EA credential. If you have a bachelor in accounting that is complementary for EA. Be a CPA if you want to become more focus on Accounting & Auditing. I have seen some CPA not practicing taxation at all.

No EA designation does not guarantee good tax strategies. The EA does not guarantee strong business background knowledge. Many EAs know little about business. CPAs are guaranteed to know business. You Want a CPA who specializes in tax and works with clients in your industry. Check the professionals track record a CPA or an EA can be excellent at helping with tax strategies but not all are equal on both sides.

This information could not be more incorrect. I am a CPA and know more tax than 99% of EAs. The real difference in my opinion is that (and I am generalizing here), EAs are those who couldn't/did not try to pass the CPA exam. The CPA is SIGNIFCANTLY harder and a much higher bar to clear than obtaining an EA.

A CPA should also be able to give you tips and knowledge and recommendations. But mine never has🥺

This is so much bull$hit. This guy's mom has built a pretty sketchy business as an enrolled agent. Just look at their better Business ratings and reviews. A more apt comparison would be comparing a doctor (CPA) to a nurse (EA).

God is real. I went to bed praying to figure out who it is that can help me get my questions answered and woke up with this. I even asked chat gpt to imagine it was a business attorney, CPA, CTO, CFO and expert tax strategist... I've never heard of an EA. THANK YOU!
