Sometimes you have to go with the vehicle you already have. You just have to go. No choices. Maybe your minivan is your only open door, when the landlord puts your rental home up for sale.

I love going to cemeteries as well. There are some interesting headstones and crypts that are architectural marvels.

I also hate getting on the expressway unless absolutely necessary. Backroads are my thing even when I am in town. I've always felt you need to know a couple of different ways to get home with a vehicle or know well enough to be able to walk home without one (SHTF territory).

Especially if you have to evacuate. Most people default to the major roadways. I noticed this group mentality during the beginning period of the pandemic last year. Most people were standing in long lines at Target, Walmart, Costco, etc. I decided to go to the less-trafficked retail stores for sourcing of supplies...Office Depot, Tractor Supply, Ace Hardware, Rite-Aid, independent pharmacies, etc.

The payoff in looking at and exploring the roses off the beaten path can prove to be more relaxing, interesting, and fruitful.

Great video. :) i like watching these types of videos in preparation of my upcoming van life. I feel like preparations are really important. I'm already changing some of my life styles based on what i want on the road concerning furniture and utilities, sports, writing and photography skills. Imo its always best to plan ahead well and test out some stuff. The whole thing will already be a huge change, no point in adding to the stress.

I noticed my absolute traveling max without stopping, or just making one short pit stop en route, is 4-4.5 hrs if I am driving straight through (interstate-wise).

That's when my body gets tied up, I get tired, and my focus goes off track. It's good to recognize those limits. It also lets you plan your trips / adventures better.

I'm hoping that I'm not setting myself for failure. When I camped with the trailer, I was bound to visit campgrounds. Because it is a small tent trailer, it's lot of work to set up and pull down. It means driving further than I want to at times and having a job when I get there and leave. I am privileged to live in a place with lots to do and see. It's not far from where Ontario, Quebec and New York meet. The idea of hopping in the van on a Saturday, visiting a small town, sleeping over night, visiting another and coming home and simply unpacking clothes, excess food and dirty dishes is appealing. The worst thing is to have unrealistic expectation of an overplanned trip and being exhausted at home after.

Worst case scenario, I just bought a vehicle to get me to Home Depot, IKEA and the recycling centre.

You hit it here....I'll bet most folks have over shot the miles in the beginning...I sure did. Drove like a trucker, 😐, , ! I now will visit that small town..etc

The 6th reason was a pretty good one. My Mother liked RV'ing if the distances weren't too far and especially if there was someone to visit along the way. My Dad was more adventurous, so when he did some trips to destinations like Bella Coola BC, Inuvik BC, and pulled his 5th Wheel up to Prudhoe Bay Alaska, my Mom took a pass. This worked out for the both of them with neither one grumbling about having to do something they didn't want to do or pass on a trip they were pining for.

Great information! I have a tendency to want to "get there" so I get a lead foot and forget to stop and smell the roses!

I so agree with this one 100%. I want to travel and he wants to stay home.
I have traveled with my mom while my dad stayed home.

I did a ton of COVID camping last year than I have at any other period and time. Dragged my boys along and came to find out that 1 overnight in one spot (so we could try out a bunch of different local parks) isn't enough or realistic.

By the time you get there at the allowed time in the mid-afternoon, unload, set up, relax/cook/eat/build a fire, etc. By the time morning comes about you're cooking breakfast and have to get to packing and loading up again to get booted by the early PM.

Add in variables like a downpour come hella-lightning thunderstorm that will trap you in your tent or car in the middle of the night...well, you just need 1 or 2 more days at least. And/or a quick set up / take down system. Lessons learned.

On 2 intrepid occasions, I was so exhausted I just left everything at the site, paid to extend my stay, went to work, and came back to break everything down and pack up. It was DUMB.

My future camping adventures will be 2-3 days minimum.

Personally, it’s not a failure. It just wasn’t for them. Sometimes people like to try things for the fun of it or because it new and exciting.

I really think when I go out it's going to be a part time activity. I don't think I can ever do full time in a van. I have no repair skills, so I figure my vehicle will break down in the middle of nowhere.

Buy more chalk, LOL. Thank you for another great video. We have two vehicles, when I travel and live out of a vehicle by myself I take the older Jeep Patriot. It is perfect for just one. When my husband or 80+ years young Mother is along, we take the minivan. Ofcourse I we don't travel fulltime and we through in hotels or motels when the other person needs one. For us traveling and living out of a vehicle stretches our travel time, and the places we can visit. This last year it allowed me to take my Mother to visit some of my siblings without her flying or using public transportation. My husband and I also did a 2 week trip out to the North Rim of The Grand Canyon NP, The Petrified Forest NP and Painted Desertand NP. The minivan allowed us to do the trip cheaper and gave us options for cooking are own food and dispersed camping when entire communities were closed because of the pandemic. My husband enjoyed the trip so much that he's now actually excited for our next trip. All that said, because we are older and own sticks and bricks and some camping lots, it is way cheaper for us to hang out at home. We live in one of the flatter boring states and own almost everything we have outright so, taxes, upkeep, utilities, food and gas are what we pay. All our expenses for a year are less than 2 months rent in most East or West Coast Cities or Mountain Cities. Budget and emergency fund are intragole to having FUN. Thank you again for another great video, safe travels.
