Oberheim TEO-5 INHALT Synth Demo No Talking

Following up from my work on the beta development and sound design on the Oberheim OB-X8, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the next Oberheim synth would be the TEO-5. Unpacking the beta unit revealed a beautiful and cleverly designed 5 voice analog synth that simply sounds amazing.

The size of the TEO-5 is absolutely perfect for world wide gigging and the sound is a sort of best of Oberheim with a modern twist. That modern twist doesn't exclusively come from the excellent FX processor on board, but also from the interesting modulation options and ranges. While you can push the synth into harmonic and saturated zones, it still, like all Oberheims remains one large sweet spot.

Don't be fooled by the smaller size and voice count, there is nothing small about the sound and capability of the TEO-5. Not to be missed.

Please note this recording is of a beta development unit running an early firmware. The sounds featured here are the patches I made for the shipping factory bank that comes with the synth straight from Oberheim.

Recorded at Infinite Power Studios, Los Angeles. All patches by Matia Simovich/INHALT. Video edited by Grover Greenberg.

I bought the OB6 purely on the strength of the original INHALT demo, a masterpiece of moodiness and melancholy. TEO-5 so far does not speak to me in quite the same way but those Through Zero FM patches offer a new flavour of awesome

This is my second time listening to this great demonstration! My mind is telling me buy this, buy this! And now I more than likely will! Thanks again!

Amazing synth and great demo. Finally a Oberheim synth with distinctive electronic sound with a fat and versatile SEM filter, fast an percussive OB8 emulated envelopes from the OB-X8 and modern modulation possibilities at a reasonable price.

It's like the synth the Access Virus was trying to emulate

Excellent demo, thanks for sharing! Sounds like a great synth for electro and EBM.

This sounds epic/price point is super attractive. Thanks for the demo!

It's a really beautiful sounding synth. Love that they used 2130 VCOs for TZFM. I have the OB-6, but I think I really want one of these. Just has a really silky/bubbly sound to it. (the OB-6 does too, but it takes a bit more care to get gains all set when patching) This one seems to just push out the smooth by default. :D If I had space, I'd have both, but I am officially out of space. Nice demo!

My order has been postponed to November, can you imagine what that means to me? Thanks for creating this video! I was always a friend of the Oberheim sound and I will always be.

I honestly feel a bit hyped over this synth for the reason to have an Oberheim-type with a mod matrix :) Love the smooth sound from it.

I had an UB-XA and I didn’t like it at all… There were a lot of hiding function … And personally I didn’t like the overall tone of that Behringer. But the Teo 5 it seems to be an absolutely Beast!

I was kind of worried that the bass was lacking from multiple demos, even though it's got the sub osc. Then I listened to your sequence at 6:30.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sequential have a “Trio-5” based on the Trigon-6 in the works as well, seems like the logical next move

Matia, what are your thoughts on the TEO-5 in comparison to the OB-6? Now that you’ve spent some time with it, how do they differ in terms of sound?

I remember your ob6 demo sold me and i got a little desktop version. Sold it and missed it since its been gone but have never been able to justify getting a new one. I saw the email about this one and IMMEDIATELY preordered after watching the loopop and sweetwater demo. I will miss the hell out of that high end shimmer of the ob6 but this thing has G I R T H from the sounds of it and it seems like a great multigenre instrument as well opposed to the limited pallet of the ob6.

I couldn't resist. This is my dream synth. People hard defending the ob6 are coping

Sounds really good just not my style of synth colorings. I like the design a lot, looks very good.

Musicradar rated this synth a 4.4 and the Take 5 a 4.6. I jammed on my Take 5 today and I realize the reason why. Dave Smith was an utter master at patch design. The Acid Basser patch on this Teo is awesome. Other than that, there are about 15 Take 5 presets I like better than anything this Teo has. I will list several that I love right now: 1. Stereorazor 2. Unisonic, 3. The Fifth Dimension, 4. Escaped Electrons, 5. Automaton, 6. Pushy Plucks, 7. Urgent Plux, 8. White Room Hoover, 9. Shifty Shades, 10. Sync Surfer, 11. Splashy Arp, 12. Rubber Band Bass., 13. Qhord Stabs, 14. Open Up. Another issue I have with this video is he keeps repeating cool sounds over and over again at the end like Acid Basser, Modular and Baumann's Seq. This Teo has some great techno sounds no doubt, but I prefer stacked Unison sounds and fat bass sounds, and plucky sounds for trance all day long plus the real FM.
