54ft SailBoat REFIT: FULL DOCUMENTARY

Показать описание
This is a full length documentary on the total refit of my sailboat.

This is 6 months work, not all of it, probably 40% of it, but it shows a bulk of the work I had to do to get this boat which had been left for 4 years back into working shape and ready to cruise oceans.

It is a Jeanneau 54ds that we purchased for 130k as it was in pretty rough shape, I saved about 70 to 100k by doing all the work myself.

2 hours 20 minutes of boat work, bloody hell I thought bugger that for a joke, but I sat though the whole rebuild, I think it was the humour that kept me going, well done and happy sailing, I actually found Chris a couple of weeks ago and watch him as well, by the way I'm a Kiwi watching from China, who would have thought 🙏🙏🙏

18:00 I would really recommend wearing at least a basic particulate respirator when doing any fine dust work (like sanding), especially in enclosed spaces. $5-20 but makes it so much more comfortable and most importantly safe :)
And when doing any chemical work (like varnishing) - a proper 3M chemical respirator would be ideal ($40-100)
Great video, beautiful boat, thank you!

Not being on the same land as i, I'm in America, this is one of the best videos on here. I just might watch it again. Fantastic job you have done.

Hey- great video. Very well done. Only thing is I’d recommend using a hoover on the end of your sander next time, picks up 95% of the dust and saves on mess inside and outside blowing onto other boats. And better for your lungs.

Followed from the start. Rehabbed a 40’ Legend full interior and exterior. This is my 5th sailboat to rebuild. Thanks for being just YOU, makes a huge difference from other channels. Now watching Wesail- wish I would have documents out refit with video- have tons of photos. 45+ years sailing.

"Naked Germans" 😂😂😂😂 That will forever be my thought when meeting a German from this point forward. Great job on the boat, mates 🎉🎉🎉 Inspiring!

Doing something like this is 1, 000x more practical than someone building their own from the ground up. There is a huge amount of labor in building a hull and interior, not to mention the skilled wood work and FRP work. Rebuilding/refitting saves a ton of skilled labor and you still get everything that wears out replaced.

I’ve spent the last 3 years watching YouTube sailing videos. This one hands down the most valuable insight to a great sailing vessel!!

We purchased the same yacht 6 weeks ago in Sicily!!
And while she needs no work, you’ve shown me so many tips tricks and new holes (no pun intended😂😂)
Thanks for sharing and hope paths cross somewhere in the med and I will gladly by you a beer 🙏🏻

That top rudder housing frame is prone to rust. We had to replace ours on our 1999SO 45.2. Keep eye on it and paint it with red oxide etc. the main cause is the emergency rudder cover letting water through. Add silicon sealer to the cover for the emergency tiller cover. 👍⛵️

Great to see the journey buddy, thanks for sharing! still looking for ours!

Should you not have re-cored the rudder? If it's cracked and delaminated, and it's now "dry", is it not likely somewhat compromised in the core?

So great to see new content from you Andy!
I did a similar refit on a smaller, older boat and I’m diggin your choices!

Cheers!

Holy shit that was awesome! I'm looking at buying my first piece of shit boat soon and that was a brilliant reminder in how much it will cost me! Thanks for putting in the time and filming it all. Great insight!

Great video! Thanks for sharing. One thing though....inhaling all that dust is so unhealthy. Invest in proper dust collection. Even when you're sanding the hull outside. That paint dust is so toxic.

Could you not have acid bathed the old chain and anchor to save £1000?
Thank you for posting this, its fun, and I learned a lot.
