Agreed, it is very attractive airplane, I like the Mooney, especially the addition of the left side door. The obvious thing is it is fast and stable, a well built design.
However Useful Load is a big problem which needs to be pointed out.
Useful load is 980 lbs so Maximum Fuel Useful Load is only 380 lbs
Now deduct the weight of Air Conditioning -66 lbs
Now deduct the FIKI approved TKS anti icing system -95 lbs
So now you have Useful Load of 219 lbs, so add back in the AC's because you can just taxi with the door cracked
Now you have to fly on Half Fuel for obvious reasons = 50 Gallons, so add back in 300 lbs.
Now you have a Useful Load of 585 lbs.
No overweight people (including the pilot)
No heavy luggage
AND THEN:
Limit your power settings for reasonable endurance - in other words LOWER YOUR SPEED.
So much for the fastest single piston engine general aviation aircraft.
This is a very sad situation. 😮‍💨
