In many countries affirmative action is written into law. Not left to few old men to decide according their ideology.
Example. India had affirmative action laws in books soon after independence for students of lower caste (ie. the subjugated people for no reason other than being born in a specific caste) to have guaranteed place in colleges and universities. Now thousands of such students are working and contributing to the IT and other high tech Indian companies.
It is critical for US to remove politics from highest court and have term limits for the justices like in England and many European countries. The situation now is unacceptable and going to tear up US from within.

African Americans built the institutions as slaves that by LAW they were barred from attending hundreds of years before mass immigration. The US Government also withheld the GI Benefits of the GI Bill which paid for Education despite the fact they fought in the war. GI Benefits advanced White men to the middle class and their kids attend these schools as legacies.
