Why is Venus the hottest planet?

preview_player
Показать описание
Although Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun, it’s not the hottest. That title belongs to Venus. The average surface temperature of Venus is about 460°C or 860°F. That’s hot enough to melt lead. The reason why Venus is the hottest planet in the solar system is its atmosphere. It has a thick atmosphere, 96% of which is made of carbon dioxide, along with traces of other gases such as sulfur dioxide. These gases and the yellowish clouds containing sulphuric acid trap most of the Sun’s heat and generate a runaway greenhouse effect, making Venus the hottest planet in the solar system. This also makes the exploration of Venus a challenging task. The longest a lander survived on this planet is just 128 minutes before its instruments got damaged in the hostile environment.

“How much global warming do you want?”
Venus: “yes”

Fun fact:
A year on venus is shorter than day on venus!
Basically one day on venus is 243 earth days and and one year on venus is 225 earth days

Russia's Venera lander is the first man made instrument that reached Venus. Before the instrument got damaged, it managed to send the first colored photo of Venus' landscape.

Powerful greenhouse effect!
Best avoid that here!

My little sis was also watching this with me and suddenly she exclaimed "well just put trees in there! Trees need carbon dioxide! They will also give oxygen and then the atmosphere will be full of oxygen not carbon dioxide!" Uhhmmm.... maybe she got a point 💀💀

Did you know that the Venera space probe actually landed on Venus.

Did anybody forget about? Betelguese

Betelgeuse is a red supergiant star in the Orion constellation that's known for its brightness and size:
Brightness
Betelgeuse is usually the tenth brightest star in the night sky and the second brightest in Orion. It's about 100, 000 times brighter than the sun.
Size
Betelgeuse is more than 400 million times the volume of the sun and has a radius of 383, 400, 000 km.
Location:
Betelgeuse is located near the eastern shoulder of Orion and marks the hunter's shoulder.
Name:
Betelgeuse comes from the Arabic term bat al-jawzāʾ, which means "the giant's shoulder".
Distance:
Betelgeuse is roughly 548 light-years from Earth.
Lifespan:
Betelgeuse is nearing the end of its life and is expected to explode in a supernova. The explosion will be so bright that it'll be visible during the day for weeks.
Other facts:
Betelgeuse is a runaway star that's moving away from Orion at about 18.6 miles per second. It's also a variable star, meaning its luminosity changes. In late 2019, Betelgeuse began dimming, reaching an apparent magnitude of 1.6 by early 2020. It returned to its original brightness later that year.

The pressure is so great on the surface of Venus it would be like taking 1 ton and placing it over every square inch of your body, you would be crushed flat in a fraction of a second.

Another fact it that through most of earth’s orbit the closest planet to earth is mercury. That’s because mercury orbits the sun so quickly that it’s often on the same side of the sun as earth. Mercury is so hard to explore because of the probes pick up so much speed as they get closer to the sun. Probes have to go through elaborate orbits to slow down enough to get close. The intense heat from the sun also is a factor.
