KillKing, I have examined hundreds of west coast arrows and I would say 75% of them had wooden foreshafts designed for large game;not to say stone tips were not used. Like Ishi I am positive most CA Native tribes had a healthy combination of both. The only arrows I have seen without a foreshaft were Mohave Arrows. Most tribes infact did use them here in Southern CA. The Apache poisoned hunting arrows with prickly pear fruit mixed with animal blood, their war arrows were poisoned with venom of a rattlesnake.

The reason for the non removable forshaft in true traditional arrows is the fact it slows the target animal down so you can get more arrows on target and makes the animal bleed out faster so it dies faster. The non broad head arrows need to be aim precisely or else they wont kill the target which is why the broad head arrows are used most often
