Steven Seagal's profession seems to require a certain amount of cooperation from their opponent.

Can someone please tell Joe to stop saying that aikido was used by the samurai for hand to hand combat. I’m extremely disappointed that he would say such craziness. Aikido was created in 1920 by morihei ueshiba. The hand to hand combat used by the samurai was Jiu-jitsu. True jiu jitsu not the Brazilian version.

Steven Seagal has been a fighter his hole life. He has actively fought common sense, reality, and logic.

Credit where it's due: Steven Seagal has never lost a fight with a buffet.

Apparently, every time anyone on Earth gets into a fight. the opponent will be a professional MMA fighter.

In other words....it works in a very specific situation....against a committing armed opponent. Thats pretty cool

Jujitsu was the hand-to-hand fighting style of Samurai warriors. As an MMA guy, I am surprised that Joe Rogan was unaware of this fact.

I love listening to somebody talk about something they know nothing about

Coming from a law enforcement perspective, aikido is very good for apprehension of suspects. Wrist locks and submission techniques are great for that. But, once the fight goes to the ground, you have to know jj. When I was in law enforcement, we were taught both aikido and bjj.

This wasn't invented until after 1900. Long after Samurai were gone

Stephen Segal is a legit buffet expert and will destroy anyone standing in his way between him and the buffet.

As a teen I had a brown belt in Aikido. It gives you a different close combat perspective. It’s about weight shifts, if you are quick, you can certainly get advantage in many situations. It’s not just about swords, even knives, clubs, etc… it can be super useful. Now Daniel Cormier, well that might be a different story.

But those front kick KOs you see, that’s one of Aikido’s best arsenal.

Morehei Ueshiba, Creator of Aikido was born 1883. Era of Samurai ended 1870. so yeah…

Steven Seagal’s Aikido would’ve been a perfect WWE legend!😂

When someone that's trained in Aikido grabs you, unless you're on crack, you will feel pain and you will move in a way to alleviate that pain. I've trained in Isshinryu karate for over 2 decades and when I attended an Aikido seminar and was stopped by the instructor, I did whatever came naturally to me, in the moment, to stop the feeling of joints being bent in a way that they shouldn't be bent.

Aikido is disarms, throws, and bladework. The Samurai didnt train in "Ring Arts" because there skills weren't for show. They were trained to kill. An Aikido fighter vs a pro mma fighter isnt a good match up because one is meant to entertain crowds while the other is meant to kill. Aikidos movements are all illegal in mma.

Everyone is forgetting Steven Seagal wasn’t some average size guy. In his prime he was in shape and a big dude, he could definitely defend himself and dish out some damage because of his size alone. Not just because he’s an Aikido master, but he also knew and practiced other martial arts as well.
