How To Make a Murphy Bed with Stay Level Desk

This time I make a Murphy bed with a stay level desk! The desk turns the room into a true multifunction space, and with the stay level feature I don't have to clear it off before pulling the bed down. I also flanked the bed with cabinets and shelves for lots of storage!

The math for a stay level desk is actually very simple once I drew it out and tested everything. I'll identify four "swivel points":
1- Bed Swivel
2- Desk to Bed Swivel
3- Frame to Brace Swivel
4- Desk to Brace Swivel

I think these are pretty self explanatory. Anyways, whatever the *horizontal* and *vertical* distance is between the swivels 1 & 2 is, the horizontal and vertical distances between 3 & 4 should be the exact same. If you "connect the dots", you'll find that they form a parallelogram where you can fix two points, and move two points, and keep the distances equal

That's a great take on the stay-level desk concept! A piano hinge on the back upper edge, and pressurized struts to keep it level through its arc. The DeskBed design has the desk hanging from brackets, without struts (just struts on the bed to help lift it), and I thought about trying to reverse engineer that without plans, but it seemed a bit advanced. This seems much simpler, but it depends on those struts not failing. Still, I may give this one a go at some point. Thanks for sharing!
