I love that this is half serious, and half cradled in his usual non serious insult comic type persona that he does for the entertainment value.

If you want to see him be fully serious, look at his ' The Reason People Don't Get Better At Chess According to Ben Finegold', sort by popularity of video. That's when he's almost fully serious, and you can tell the difference. You can also hear him be serious here, in ' GM Ben Finegold's Message to Beginner Chess Players'

And he also has different, not talked about channels where he drops the persona entirely and just teaches kids how to play chess, which is not linked to his main channels, probably to keep the more adult content away from them.

For a guy whose jokes are Don Rickles-esque, if you know when he's being serious and when he's not, you'll find he genuinely cares about the game of chess, wants people to improve, wants to help them improve, wants to help kids learn, even explains why it's hard for some people to learn, and has principles like resigning from a chess federation because the guy in charge didn't listen to complaints about sexual harassment and whatnot.

For someone who can be slow to understand sarcasm, irony, or deadpan delivery, and generally, not a fan of bullying or punching down, I was a little slow to catch on. But I've been watching for a very long time, and this guy is a good dude.

So, besides all the other things he did wrong, he really needs to study endgames, starting with king and pawn. He could bring his rating up a bit by converting these positions. He could stumble through like he did and still win if he were solid on just a few key points
