And for those of us who have ever experienced abandonment, it can be extra scary!!

My grandmothers lived to 92 and 104. My grandfathers made sure they were taken care of. I pray I don't outlive my money. I'm 57 and husband is partially disabled. We will be out of baby step 2 in Feb, then the plan is to pay off house by age 65. We don't have much in 401k. We live on acre land, small home, and grow food and raise chickens. I pray we can continue this lifestyle. We put our trust in God.

My great aunt who lived through the depression was a hoarder. She'd always say there would be another crash & great depression. I think we are there!

I don't think this should be labeled as a syndrome. This seems like a rational thought process considering we live in a society where the banks can cause deflation or inflation whenever they feel like it. If it is labeled as a syndrome it should be called smart lady syndrome.

Me and girlfriends already discussed the Golden Girl idea, and are onboard! We all have kids but who wants to live with them, thats no fun!

Yep, I have it and it’s a real thing. 50 years old, no kids, no siblings, no family. My husband is 20 years older. ... On another note, your last video motivated me to call my cable company and make some changes. Haven’t cut the cord yet, but that’s coming. In the meantime, I have 2 smart TV’s with all the free apps you showed, so I was able to cut my bill by $50. I’ll take that any day.

Do you think bag lady syndrome is as prevalent in countries such as Norway where social security system is more favourably structured? I would add that bag lady syndrome in not a syndrome; it is a fact. Women are at significantly greater risk of poverty in their later years because they take time out of the workforce to raise a family and they tend to work in low paid and insecure part-time and casual jobs that fit in with raising a family. What money they earn they put towards meeting their family's needs ( food, clothing, housing) and prioritise this over putting money away to provide for themselves in their later years. Then add in the likelihood of divorce and ending up single as they enter old age. No bloody wonder women have bag lady syndrome!

I could make so many comments, but as this is a public forum, I will not. I grew up poor, I have always had to be frugal. I am now 65 and I still have to be frugal. I have had many blessings come into my life and I thank God for them.

I’ll be frank, I don’t depend on our pensions or 401Ks. I know this is so opposite of Dave’s advice. But I truly believe they are going to all fail in the not so distant future. My focus is on taking care of the next generation and providing outside of the monetary system. I think we lost something important when we lost the generational family mindset. The old die alone and the young never benefit from their experience and knowledge.

In Puerto Rico, single mature women who are alone rent out rooms, mostly college students rent them. They call these houses ironically PENSION, because it provides a pension to the lady.

I’m 66. My husband died three years ago. Ever since my children have become over protective with me. I’m glad I have them.

I heard a phrase from a woman recently retired. She talked about being financially secure. Her comment was that everyone she meets, “ Their either looking for a nurse or a purse”. I had never heard it put that way.

I am a 53 year old bachelor, with no family, parents and brother are deceased. I am fortunate to have some good friends who are younger who I plan to move near to. However, I do work for the State of Texas so will have a retirement. But believe me, it is not only women who think like this. The last year it has been a daily concern.

My GF started to feel bad a couple of years ago, was diagnosed with MS. She can't even walk half block, she has incontinence issues and all sorts of other limiting things. Count your blessings, she is only 35.

It's funny how they say we can't get that social security in the future but I'm still forced to put into it. Congress needs to quit touching social security

I live on a mortgage free 60 acre farm. I decided long ago if my hubby dies before me that I'll sell the farm for hopefully a tidy profit and buy a small 2 bedroom house in town. One person cannot keep up with all of the mowing, gardening, orchard, bees, chickens, meat rabbits AND the house. The farm land is leased out, but we still maintain about 10 or 12 acres weekly. I broke my leg in November, while I can still get around this experience has taught me exactly how difficult my future here could be all on my own.

I am 73. I have years left. But my youth is gone, and I need a place with no steps to be climbed or descended, so I am buying a manufactured home. I know many older women, like myself, but almost every one of them drinks or smokes or both, and I can't stand that, and many will lie about it. They really think you can't smell it on them. So, unless I find another person who lives clean, I am on my own. Well, we'll see. Bless you, Prepper Princess.
