For the past few years, I've been stationed in the remote mountain regions of Garhwal. Each night, I play this video and watch the distant village lights. There's an untamed beauty to it, as if the stars are almost within reach. Beneath that beauty, though, lies a deep loneliness. The memories of life left behind, and dreams that never came to be weigh heavily on my heart. Winters are harsher, but this kind of music, a strong drink, and all the fragmented memories and unfulfilled dreams keep me going. The cold is piercing, but the warmth of the whisky and the melancholy tunes provide a rough comfort. The silence of the mountains echoes my isolation. But you know, I've come to accept it. These memories are my battle scars, now my closest companions. Even though the ache never truly fades, it never breaks me.
