She performs it like a walk in the park. Like it was meant to be played. She’s just so natural!

I started listening to Bach wen I was 17 and now I'm 75 and have never heard such an amazing performance of the first violin concerto!

Learning this piece right now for a recital, this by far the best recording I have listened to. No one plays Bach like Hillary Hahn. She plays it so effortlessly, elegantly, and beautifully.

“Music is an agreeable harmony for the honor of God and the permissible delights of the soul.”

She plays Bach exactly how you would like to hear it. Spirited, articulated, grand, organic, technically flawless, elegant and gracious yet powerful, deep and broad, there is everything there. Btw, much superior performance here than the CD with the SFO

My teacher was Hillary Hahns next door neighbor in the 80s and he was in his college years. He was listening to a rock album and then he heard the beauty of hillary hahn when she was only 8!

I played that piece at 17 for the first time in the conservatory for my HS graduation. I injured my left hand years ago so I have not played in years. But It remains my favorite. Hahn's rendition is flawless.

Her playing from around 14:00 on is simply astounding...the way she digs into the suspensions and rides achingly over the orchestra is such a bold choice and it pays off. Brava.

She is just jaw dropping perfection. There is no ego in her performance, just the voice of the Divine and the Genius of the composer. Hilary is “Shakti carrying a violin bow.”

She will be known forever as one of the eternal masters of the instrument 🎻.

13:58. Epic violas. Epic entrance of the beginning of the theme, while the violin ostinates incredibly. Huge amount of energy, tears in eyes. Thank you Master of this art....

I like the way that, in the last movement, all the players are smiling and making eye contact, really enjoying the dance of the music. Ms. Hahn, who was a dancer, is clearly communicating her own delight to the rest of the orchestra and conductor.

I also appreciate the choice of tempo - these are clearly dances. If you can't visualize people dancing to much of Bach's music, the tempo is probably too fast. It seems to be a common choice to play Bach a bit faster than the music suggests it ought to be played. Just because you can play fast, doesn't mean you should.
