As an American in Spain I find it very affordable...
My house in Spain is smaller than the one I bought in the States but is close to the beach...
I paid 1/2 of what I paid for my home in Kansas...
Restaurants are exponentially more affordable in Spain.
I also enjoy having universal healthcare in Spain.
I paid $500/month for coverage in the states & as Americans know having insurance doesn't necessarily mean that you have coverage. Prescriptions are much more affordable around $15.
I can drive 30 min in any direction & see things that Americans only read about in history class.
Each town has a local farmers market with the best produce in the world for a fraction of the price that you would pay for processed garbage sold in the States. .
Grocery stores are amazing here.
More natural & less processed foods. NO CORN
Ive been here 6 months, bought a home, bought a car, opened a bank account, obtained my residency started my carpentry business & am settling in quite well....

Great video. I'm a Brit living in Spain for 30 years in different regions and your report is spot on. I would only add that an added trick for reducing cost of living is looking at rural areas near large cities. I live in a village of 300 inhabitants about an hour from Madrid. My groceries bill is considerably cheaper buying locally and eating out is about 25% cheaper too. Bus and regional trains to Madrid are also cheap. You can rent a whole house in my village for about 300€ a month! As I´m off grid, I pay just 30€ a month for satellite Internet with a decent bandwidth (video conferencing is no problem, for example) and before that my mobile connection was just fine.

I just find it utterly ridiculous how banks still have the nerve to charge people for having an account. They should be paying us!

Boy is this making me homesick. I lived in Salamanca for a year, and I have to say it’s one of the most underrated/inexpensive cities in Spain. My two friends and I shared a massive 3 bedroom apartment for €900 a month, steps from the Plaza Mayor. I was always shocked at how cheap my supermarket/restaurant bills were. Plus Salamanca is in a great location-two hours by train from Madrid, and about a three and a half hour drive from Porto or Asturias. Can’t wait to go back!

Spain is my retirement goal.
Looking into Malaga.

Wife and I will be both retired from the military in 2022, and our combined pension will be around $6k.
We are in our 40s.

We also speak Spanish and Tagalog, so language is not a barrier.

I lived in Barcelona for 5 months and I loved it. This is making me ''homesick'' haha. Spain is a beautiful country and I have visited it many times, never disappoints me! I lived with 6 roommates about 300 meters from La Rambla, walking distance from the beach and paid 400€ a month for my room. I always did my grocery shopping at Mercadona in Poublenou area but to be honest I did eat out a lot because I can't resist tapas and the food in Barcelona in general. Ah good times 😍🙌🏼

Two of my friends were almost planning to move to Malaga last year, but the pandemic unfortunately cancelled their plans and are living in Germany now. Southern Spain is one part of Spain I would love to visit someday. So far in Spain I have only seen Barcelona which is amazing! It is great how Malaga is quite affordable and beautiful at the same time! Great video!

I believe my soulmate resides somewhere in Spain, & if not there .. she lives close to a quaint outdoor cafe on a side street in Lisbon.
... I just had a dream, that's all. Cheers

Valencia cost of living I think is even cheaper, I know very nice neighborhoods, apt for 3 bedrooms around 700 Euros fully finished, the high prices are in the center of the city.
Valencia has a great Metro system and you don't need to live in the center of the city

I've lived in Spain for 20+ years and love it. I like your statement about developing a sixth sense about costs and quality, it gets cheaper and better as your experience increases. Your quoted prices for wine and food sound way too high, just for example $8 for a bottle of wine is twice what I pay for good quality table wine from Mercadona, Spain's biggest and best supermarket. Anyway a very good and well researched video.

In Valencia a transport pass for older travelers is 50% lower. There are zone charges that raise the charge. “El menu del día”(daily menu) is a great deal. I was in valencia for 3 months and loved it!

One of the more informative 'living in' country videos that I've seen. One thing that I suggest to all of the 'in country' vloggers is to spend a bit of time advising on the ethnic diversity of the city/location. I know it's not easy to put yourself in another's shoes in that regard, but it would be helpful to those of us who 'on sight' stick out. Gracias!
