Anime is exceptionally unapproachable. But I think if I had to show my mom an anime tomorrow I'd likely choose Frieren.

The issue with watching Frieren with your mom is when she asks you if there's any other anime like it, then it's back to square one

I watched frieren with my dad (he dislikes anime) but he said frieren is one of the best shows he has watched. As he said its so simple and beautiful. He actually stumbled onto the show accidentally as I was watching it on TV and he got curious so he watched it with me. We watched an episode a day (sometimes 2) and it was really cool, watching an amazing show with my dad. 10/10 show period.

I think Frieren is mature and doesn't disrespect their characters.

I rewatched Frieren with my mum (who's in her 50s) and she adored it. I've watched a few shows with her before that she enjoyed well enough, but Frieren in particular really seemed to speak to her, and that's because she found Frieren as a character incredibly relatable. It was the first anime we'd watched together where the protagonist was an older lady like her, and she liked that although Frieren was wise and experienced, she never stopped growing and learning new things. I don't think I've ever seen her invested in an anime character quite as much as she was with Frieren, and I can't wait until we get more anime content so I can watch some more with her.

The mental processing I've had to go through before considering recommending anything anime to a non-anime fan has been an exhausting reality since becoming an adult. How does it depict its female characters? Is there egregious fan-service? How many episodes are we talking about? Where can you even get it legally? Does it have a dub? Is the dub any good? Is there heavy culturally-specific humour or pop-culture references that would alienate them? How much weirdness can this person tolerate in general? and many more thoughts go through my head at lightning speed.

Anyways, that's why FMB and Ghibli movies have always been a safe go-to for inoffensive-yet-quality. Frieren is in that Ghibli territory. Strongly written female protagonist, no real fanservice, immaculate animation quality, and it has a lot of variety to offer -- adventure, action, slice-of-life, romance, and Himmel -- unless they can't deal with the pacing it's going to be a solid recommendation for years to come.

Just finished watching with my mom recently. I had already seen it once before and read vol 1-6 of the manga (season 1). Frieren was a great catalyst for being able to have thought-provoking discussions with my mom before I move out. I would pause after some scenes and talk about life and sometimes 24 minute episodes would turn into 40 min episodes because of the discussions we were able to have. I don't think any other show for me has been able to encourage these kinds of interactions with others by relating to such a wide audience. Frieren holds a very special place in my heart because of that and it makes it my favorite anime.

I’ve been trying to get my mom to read this for weeks. Sending this video to her.

Update: Me and my mom watched your video together and now we’re gonna watch it tomorrow hopefully. Thanks for putting into words some of the stuff I love about this show. I’ve talked to my mom about some of the ideas you’ve brought up in your videos without ever thinking we’d watch an anime together and now we are. I’ll update this again after we watch it.

Update 2: Me and my Ma watched 3 episodes of the show and she likes it. We only had time for those 3 but we’ll watch more soon.

I am currently watching Clannad with my mom. One episode every few weeks. We started before Frieren was airing, but as I started watching it I quickly realized how much she would enjoy it. The next time we met up to watch an episode of Clannad I excitedly told her that I knew what we would watch next. I gave her the synopsis and she agreed. I am looking forward to her introduction to Frieren.

I'm watching Frieren both with my mom, and with my dad and godfather. I somehow managed to gush about it enough to convince both my parents to separately watch it with me, and dad and I roped in my godfather as well since he's the advisor for the anime club at his school and is always looking for good material. So far, they're all not quite as absorbed in it as I was, but seem to be enjoying it quite a bit - mom and I had a long and interesting discussion about the morality of demons, and she's ended up pushing me to keep setting aside the time to watch together more than I've pushed her, whereas my dad and godfather have been a bit less deeply drawn in but are starting to really get hooked as of ep12. I'm meeting up with the latter two for episodes 13-16 tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to their reactions to Sein's arc.

I actually tried to get my mom to watch Frieren, she got to Himmel's death and she dropped it. Saying it was "too slow and kinda boring" (She usually watches Demon Slayer or SpyXFamily, so I kinda get why she wouldn't like it but still....mother how could you!)

The bit near the end was the first time I've heard the enjoyment of watching media with others properly expressed. That it's a way to connect with others. I've found myself watching and rewatching the first few episodes of frieren over and over again trying to see it from my wife's point of view, to see if she would enjoy it. And while the pure joy I feel when I can share something I love with her and she loves it back is intoxicating, the fear of her not enjoying it also breeds feelings of rejection and insecurity. Almost as if my appreciation of the art and themes provided by the show is an extension of me, ergo not enjoying it is somehow a personal attack towards me. Showing someone a show seems so trivial, yet to those who place so much value into them and the themes they carry it can be a very vulnerable experience. Anyways, all this is a very long winded way to say your video gave me the courage to try and show her this show. Wish me luck lol

Before frieren I haven’t really watched or approach much of anime and frieren is the first time I’ve been so invested in anime. The pacing is slow and the characters each have their own problem and resolve, the emotions they show feel genuine and have reasonings and your series does a really good job of showing all those aspects ❤

The timing of this video is HILARIOUS, Ive been trying to convince my mother to watch this with me for a couple weeks now and this video perfectly puts into words why i think she would enjoy Frieren specifically. Thanks Pey 🥳

My mom LOVES Frieren, like 2 episodes from the season finale asking if it had been confirmed for a season 2 loved it. For the very first time, she did the anime fan cardinal sin of getting to the end of a show and looking up season 2 herself because my answer wasn't concrete enough and I could not be more proud.

"to put to words a unique experience that i cant quite explain initially is really fun"
this is something ive been thinking for a such a long time but frieren rly is one of those shows for me, that is just so well put together that i kinda have no clue where to start when tryna tell someone how much i love it.

I watched frieren with my mother and while she wasn't as invested in it as I was, she really enjoyed it and loved the characters very much. Her favorite character was Stark because she felt bad for the poor guy getting bullied by Fern.

Haven’t watched this video yet, but the title is hilarious to me because I just watched the first two episodes of Frieren with my mom 3 days ago 🤣

- Demon Slayer
- Attack On Titan
- Haikyuu
- Sword Art Online (yes, every season)
- Rising of the Shield Hero
- attempted Hunter x Hunter
- Josee, the Tiger and the Fish
