For us, the choice was not between an inside cabin and a balcony cabin. It was between an inside cabin or no cruise at all.
It was our first cruise. We went to Alaska on the Koningsdam. It was honestly better than we expected. We only stayed inside to sleep. We always found a reasonably quiet place to sit and read or enjoy the scenery. Having the cheaper cabin allowed us to splurge on a spa package. I also heard another person mention that they took an inside cabin plus paid for a private cabana for the trip, which cost less than a balcony cabin.
It would be a very difficult situation if we were confined to the cabin due to illness; thankfully that did not happen.
With the difference in price, we can go on a cruise almost twice as often if we stick with an inside cabin.
Of course, if cost wasn’t such a significant factor for us, we would love to have a balcony cabin. We did miss having a place to sit other than on the bed, and we would love to enjoy a room service coffee and breakfast out on a balcony.

We are hooked on the neptune suites
The perks and privacy is worth it.
I know it sounds to expensive but we never have paid room price.we have a system we are sailing 3/18 on the statendam neptune suite plus the have it all package for under $4000

The only thing that is good about an inside cabin is that it is so dark and quiet you can sleep like the dead.
