A discussion of the XV8 crisis suit as elite and, to a small extent, HQ choices in the new 6th edition Codex: Tau Empire. I briefly touch on weapon and support system choices as well as tactics.

Thank you! The two in the back were painted prior to the release of foundation paints. so they're Red Gore on top of Dark Flesh. The one in front is based with the old red foundation and layered with Red Gore and highlights. As for the shine, its probably a combination of the even paint application and the model's proximity to the lights I use for filming and painting.

Codex page 95: "A twin-linked weapon counts as two choices from this list." The FAQ also provides an example in which a suit can take either 3 standard weapons or 1 TL weapon and 1 standard weapon.

Yep, this video was made before that FAQ was released. I'll eventually do an update on this video. However, note that you could only do 2x TLPR on a Crisis Commander, since it requires 4 hard points (all other crisis only have 3).

Very nice, I also was looking over my new Tau codex, taking an twin linked weapon uses up two choices out of three, so the only crisis suit that can use dual twin linked weapon systems is the commander with the option of four choices :)

sir, you are a very refreshing change in the usual set of videos about space marines and others, thank thanks thanks SUBBED :)

True, if you can stay out of LOS the whole game: no real need. However, this is unlikely in a lot of scenarios. So, I generally take 2 for a 3man crisis team so that 1 model is only 20%, thus preventing a morale check if killed. I wouldn't bother with target locks, especially if you're only running 2 drones, its not worth it to be able to throw a few more S5 shots on a different target.

The best tau option for crisis or battle suits in my opinion is: Battlesuit commander-burst cannon, command and control node, multi spectrum sensor suite, iridium armor. He is attached to 3 crisis with plasma and missile pods. Have the commander not shoot, so you have 6 missile pod shots and 3 plasma rifle shots twin linked and ignores cover. Epic heavy infantry and infantry killer

There are several configurations that I've used from time to time but I prefer the underrated Firestorm (burst cannon + missile pod) as a default loadout. The math is very good on this configuration too, being useful against light armour, light infantry, and - surprisingly to some - heavy infantry as well. In other words, it's always useful.

If your list is tailored to deal with targets differently and requires crisis teams to be more specific in their role, other configurations will be better.

Hah yeah I just got home from work to look and there it is, plain as day on page 95. Silly me lol well that changes things a little but still 2x regular plasma rifles can potentially put out 4x str 6 ap 2 shots. And the range for single firing is superior to the fusion blaster, thus better vs. heavy infanty. Thank you for clarifying! :)

don't forget :-) you can take repeat weapons, e.g., x2 T/L plasma rifles, which is absolutely wonderful for killing Heavy MEQ. I always T/L my Crisis Suits, because when they fire I need them to get results. The extra 5 - 10 pts is always worth the extra kills.

The idea of a suit just giving the finger to a bunch of guys and exploding is pretty funny. However, its not necessarily something you would chose to have happen if you were playing to win in a competitive setting. A live suit is better than a dead one, and you're investing points into a sinking (or rather exploding) ship. On top of that, you should be trying to keep your suits out of combat. Giving them an assault brings them closer to your other units. So, use it only for fun.

In the previous codex, I had a firestorm (burst cannon + missile launcher) Monnat (one-man team) with a failsafe detonator as a bit of a dirty trick against weaker infantry - do as much damage as possible, then let it be charged with an intent on making the thing explode. Is this still a viable strategy?

Where does it say that twin-linking a weapon consumes a hard point? When you buy a weapon in the wargear section, you can choose to purchase either a regular or a T/L version of the weapon. That weapon takes up one weapon slot. T/L isn't a support system so I'm not sure I understand why it takes an extra hard point. Enlighten me please? :-)

Can crisis suits take missile drones as their drone pics? If not why???

Love your models man, what did you use to get that nice shine on them?

They're hardwired now in 6th edition :-)

Seems to me that 'gunslinger' suits, with two non-linked weapons of the same kind, are the way to go with Crisis suits.  You get the benefit of specialization. I particularly like the idea of a Crisis team with 6 Plasma Rifles.   :)
