Oh, how she can sing. From the gutter to the stars. She recorded this song on "20th Century Blues." A worthy addition to the musical library.

The best version of this song i have heard. A voice of whisky and cigarettes, who lost her soul in an old cathedral town.

Marianne's style is very raw and gutsy rather than smooth and sophisticated like Diana Krall and Nat King Cole. They have very different styles and I am captivated by Marianne's artistry and the way she's telling the story. She's great!

She sounds like she's spent a long time on the Boulevard of Broken Dreams. The broken voice, cigarettes, booze...
She lost her soul a long time ago but maybe not in an old cathedral town.
This sounds much more real than when young things do a polished version.
