ABOUT NEW AMSTERDAM
In the wake of the ambulance crash that ended Season 1, medical director Dr. Max Goodwin grieves the death of his wife, Georgia, and learns the difficulties of being a single parent - all the while continuing his commitment to solve systemic health care issues at the hospital. Add in his new responsibilities as a father and with cancer still lingering in the rearview mirror, everyone around Max must wonder how long he can sustain this impossible load. But "How can I help?" is not just Max's catchphrase, it's his reason for living. As long as he's helping others, Max is able to find hope in the most hopeless of places. The cast includes Ryan Eggold, Janet Montgomery, Freema Agyeman and Jocko Sims, with Tyler Labine and Anupam Kher.

for those who dont know, max and his sister were twins, when they were 8 his sister luna died from a hospital acquired infection, this had inspired max to become a doctor in the first place

I love how Dr. Sharpe is answering the patient right on Max's back because she knows that he is emotionally involved, and she has to keep him in line with the reality of the risk involved. He's getting irritated with her quick responses, but she knows they have to be honest with the patient. This episode was so touching; i shed some tears on this one. Luna gave her a second chance at life, and she, the recipient, gave Luna's heart a lifetime of love, happiness and adventure. Max was so touched.

I guess he repressed a lot of it from grief. It's pretty common to shove painful memories deep down as a coping mechanism.

Very sweet and sad. Dr Goodwin totally forgot in order to ease his pain

Wouldn't it be a bad idea for Goodwin to be involved given the connection between the patient and the doctor?

Obviously he shouldn't have been there, but at the end he did the right thing and got to remeber something precious from the past.

The mind is a powerful thing? The things you remember and don't remember just as a defense mechanism against pain.

The universe works strangely by bringing people you thought didn’t mean anything close to you

So he's a medical director of an entire hospital at around 35 years old (which is about maybe 6 years max of practicing as a physician)...that's *maybe* could fly for a rural or suburban-rural adjacent small hospital with no advanced specialization units, but a city hospital? No.

There's other inaccuracies too, but that stood out to me. Of medical dramas, this show really is up there on inaccuracies.

Stuff like this is usually kept strictly confidential. They don’t tell you who the organ came from. Sometimes family members and friends donate to people they know. For him to know is unusual in the real world especially id like someone said, his sister died when he was very young before he became a doctor; which is what was suppose to inspire him to be a doctor. I haven’t been able to watch full episodes but I’m going to have to know.

I dont get why hes focused on the heart vs the pt. If he just lets her die bc he cant accept taking out his sisters heart, the good that her heart did will be for nothing.

even if she’s getting a new heart she’s his sister now

There is no way you are out of the hospital and attending your organ donor’s funeral a week later. -organ donor recipient. Most patients are still in the hospital at one week.

Putting all the nonsense here, transplanted organs are meant to extend life by an average of 10 years and being lucky 20. In this case, the situation is even more unreal as the patient has blood issues (hemophilia) and 27 years with the same transplanted heart?
