Replace Heated Side Mirror Glass. EASY! (Any Volkswagen)

I got a quick video for you today! Replacing a broken or non-functional heated door mirror glass/heating element is incredibly easy. I did this on a 2014 VW Jetta Sportwagen, but the job is identical on any Jetta, Passat, GTI, Golf, Alltrack, Tiguan, Touareg, etc after the mid 2000's.

Sorry for the stupid question but does the battery need to disconnected?

A couple of points, you don't need to disconnect the battery, but if you decide to do so, ALWAYS disconnect the earth first, it removes the risk of shorting your tools between the terminal and any parts of the car.

This gave me all the information I needed to do the job. Went so fast. Thanks for the reminder to disconnect the battery. I bought an OEM driver side mirror, about $102 out the door. I read the reviews on the Amazon cheapies and didn't get a warm fuzzy feeling (I depend on this mirror to see!), and FCPEuro had OEM but estimated a 9 day delivery, way too long. VW parts was $20 more, but had it to me the next day.

I cannot express how thankful I am for this quick to the point and highly helpful video and item link. I almost paid $92.00+ tax for it and instead used the link provided and paid only $40 at Amazon. Much appreciated 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙏🏻

Excellent video, very uplifting and a real money saver!

The replacement driver's side mirror glass that I bought for my wife's 2007 Rabbit cost a mere $15, and installation was as simple as depicted in the video with one exeption: My replacement did not include the springy stainless steel thing that has a blob of grease on the end. I was able to remove it from the original mirror by force with a pair of pliers - Thus breaking a little bit of the black plastic. But the stainless part came out undamaged and snapped right into place on the new mirror. After that, everything went smoothly.

BTW I didn't bother disconnecting the battery because I figured there was no chance of the mirror de-fogger running without the vehicle's defroster turned on.

Thanks very much for this exceptionally helpful video.

Watched today changed the mirror on my Gold MK7 2013 in about 4 minutes, I was a little naughty and didn't disconnect the battery but all is working as it should. Many thanks for the vid really appreciated.

Didn't even think about being able to do this myself. Just paid $150+ to replace the mirror. Future reference I will come to YouTube first. Thank you for providing the world with your knowledge.

Oh wow, seems so simple! I had some kids play target practice on my driver's side with a BB gun. So glad I didn't take this in to a dealer. Thank you!

I just did this today on my Volkswagen Golf. I was only able to find the new glass at the Volkswagen dealership. It cost a little more than $170. I was going to install it myself, but since the parts department was empty and there were no other customers the parts guy did it for me. It probably took him about 45 seconds. I wish I had known where to look to find the glass for $45.

I bowed to your superior intellect. I just did another search and found it for under $30 being sold by Amazon. I don't know why I couldn't find it the first time.

Amazing + Easy Pizzy. Thanks for the video. Got the mirror for about 80€ and fixed it myself using this video. God bless you.

That was a lot easier than I thought! I bought my mirrors from the dealer (2015 VW Golf Sportwagen TDi), and I paid $179 for the passenger's side and $189 for the driver's

I just did mine. I think I took 11 minutes. :) Most of that time was having to fiddle with a metal spacer that came with the replacement from Amazon. Super simple (and I did not disconnect the battery.)

Worth a try thanks. I’ve tried long nose pliers but even that’s too big.
