Albanese and Labor seize power as voters ditch Morrison’s Coalition | The Brief

After six long weeks of campaigning, the voters delivered their verdict, turfing Scott Morrison and his nine-year-old government from power. Labor won the election but even before it was clear whether the party had secured a majority, Anthony Albanese seized control, and immediately set about bringing change to Australia. The vanquished Coalition was left reeling by the scale of their defeat and wondering where it all went wrong as a teal wave wiped out Liberal heartland seats.

ABC News In-depth takes you deeper on the big stories, with long-form journalism from Four Corners, Foreign Correspondent, Australian Story, Planet America and more, and explainers from ABC News Video Lab.

Hopefully we get a royal Commission into news media ownership and vested interests now 🙏

It's great waking up in the morning and not see a depressing stream of corruption, rorts, inaction or mismanagement at a federal level.

I voted teal. I am supportive of this Labor government. They seem to lead from the heart. That has been absent for the last 9 years.

Its nice to see a prime minister elected by the people, instead of Murdoch, 9 and Fairfax.

The LNP has left the nation a WRECK ! ☹️

Thank god we have a Labor government. It amazes me that people think the Liberals are better economic manages. Every time Labor hands over the mantle our economy has never been stronger. Let's bring the country forward together

Nice work "The Brief". Is there any chance this congeniality can spread into the wider world of journalism and eradicate the toxic "foot on the throat, gotcha" rubbish that stifiles communication between the government and the nation. Journalistic integrity is not a self serving question at a press conference, or the hunt for blood at an interview.

I am 100% a Labor / greens voter, I used to live in Kooyong and you bet I would have voted for Monique Ryan. It would have made my primary vote look non-Labor but hey, we have a preferential voting system and I think Australians understand better than ever now how it works and how to best utilise it (thanks to Juice Media for the awesome videos)

You'd be forgiven for thinking the teals/greens took power this election after watching this. The ALP did the heavy lifting here actually taking a dozen or so seats from the LNP to force a new government.

I think this is the first time Scott Morrison has ever taken responsibility for anything.

Scott Morrison ranted about the LNP having marvellous economic management skills whilst hiding the fact power prices were set to more than double as are rates and interest. HOLLOW MAN whose party will now apportion the blame to ALP and attack them as this unfolds

So happy Morrison lost and we have hope for sincere and constructive leadership once again. The contrast is already striking.

I voted green. I been pleasantly surprised with Albos first actions. Symbolic things like the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags and unity on the international stage speaks volumes. I’d like to see stronger action on climate.

Peter Dutton has no public image confusion issue, he is who he is, a whole hearted far right winger

More democratic representatives supported by Australians, and fewer politicians inflated by foreign media?

At last, a prime minister I don't have to be embarrassed by!

The “small target” is Labor’s anti-Murdoch strategy. Not just Murdoch, but most commercial TV and talk radio. In Australia’s biased, toxic media environment it is near impossible to have an adult conversation on many crucial policy areas, not least climate change. Well, Labor won in spite of the forces arrayed against it. Australia feels better already.
