It’s cool how you can see the smoke and hot air being pulled out through the water.

Fluid dynamics are so cool.

When a fire is in an enclosed space, the flammable fumes created by the fire pool just below the ceiling. One spark and the ignite almost instantly.
The hydrovent can do an excellent job disbursing those fumes and greatly reduce the danger to firefighters.

Rarely is it not what I think, but this time it genuinely was not what I thought. Nice invention!

Using the ejection of fluid to induce a flow in another gives you an eductor: these are used in everything from jet aircraft to steam locomotives.

This work under the Venturi principle. The same that is used with foam inductor devices. A liquid flowing at a certain speed generates vacuum and performs suction

It's worth noting that this only cools the fire compartment if there's only one path for air to flow, AND someone else is actively applying water to the fire compartment. If there's another path for fresh air to be drawn in by the negative pressure creates by the hydraulic ventilation, you're actually creating a turbocharger and forcing fresh air into the fire, intensifying it in that compartment. That said, it would limit spread of hot gasses and therefore convective spread, and that's a super cool thing to ponder on.

The same Firefighter can effectively cool that fire compartment with a standard hoseline directed at the ceiling. The expansion of water into steam removes energy, and the steam and products of combustion will ventilate out the open window as it's the path of least resistance. We also use this technique from the inside of the structure pretty frequently, again without the need for specialized (expensive) equipment.

It's things like these where I'm confused but after an explanation and demonstration, I see it making sense.

It's really cool that they put the Bernulli's principle to good use.

You need special people to think of stuff like this. I'm very grateful for those people

yall know how dolphins trail some ocean vessels, it's because the ship moving creates a pocket in the water in it's wake that is pretty much moving at nearly the same speed of the boat, and that gives dolphins a way to "piggyback" on it's wake making long distance trips energy efficient.
same principle, boat is water, dolphin is fire

Wow! One minute and it cut the temperature by half, science is wild. That is awesome.

Nice upgrade to the old grenade tips used in shipboard firefighting. Should work well to cool a room and set the convective flow before entry. 👍

Local house fire was "fully involved" upon arrival of the fd. To clear the smoke from the basement, they sprayed a stream of water out of one of the windows. This arched over to the next property and landed right on a new camero in the neighbor's driveway. The car seemed so far away, but the water was hitting it perfectly. There was a lot of smoke, so they were doing it for what seemed like a long time. Around the car were broken glass and pieces of window framing. 😮

What an awesome tool! Anything that makes these brave men and women safer is fantastic in my book! I hope every department can get one. Seems simple enough…

It‘s also done to vent the steam created by the evaporation of the water. This hot vapor can boil firefighters.

Fluid dymamics is an interesting science, and laminar flow is satisfying to watch.
