The Solidigm P5430 is the next step forward for QLC-enabled SSDs in the data center. We've written extensively about Solidigm's P5316 and have found it to offer an amazing blend of performance, capacity and cost. Now, the P5430 is on the scene with a whole new build out including the latest 192-layer NAND. The drive also has a new Indirection Unit of 4KB for all but the largest capacities, making it an easy drop-in replacement for hypervisors. We break down all of this and how the P5430 stacks up against its competition in this video review.

The reason why I'm interested in QLC right now is that I just saw a Lexar NM610 Pro 1TB selling for $30. That's from not just one reputable seller but several reputable sellers. Very compelling.

However, while the product page says that it's a TLC drive, the low TBW of just 240TB for the 1TB model suggests that it's a QLC SSD. Some sites and Reddit discussions also say it's QLC. I'm inclined to believe it's QLC.

So, even if it's QLC, $30 is friggin cheap. Question is, would it be good as a system drive? I'm now using a Kingmax PQ3480 512GB Gen.3x4 TLC drive. Is it worth $30 to get the Lexar or should I just pass it up?

aren't we treat QLC as a HDD replacement?
