Gravity Falls - S02E02 - 'Into The Bunker' - Dipper and Wendy

After Dipper, Wendy, Mabel and Soos escape the bunker, Dipper and Wendy have a heartfelt conversation.

Wendy is the coolest. She handled this situation so well. Even though it didn’t exactly go as planned for Dipper, she still left him with a sense of relief.

This is what I love about gravity falls. It's doesn't dumb down kids. It doesn't use dipper being in love with Wendy as a running gag. Instead not only does the show try to be more realistic and serious, but they use the opportunity to teach kids a good moral and be mature about these kinds of childhood situations. I love how Wendy is mature and caring around dipper and instead of laughing at him, makes him feel special. Now that's a good kid's show.

I just love Wendy's attitude towards dipper, this scene is both heartwarming and heart breaking.

this is the single best rejection scene I've ever seen in a show, and I love it because neither of them are portrayed as being in the wrong here. because it's neither of their faults. dipper can't help the fact he caught feelings, and wendy can't help the fact she doesn't return them and is too old for him. it's just an awkward situation all around, and it's gonna hurt for a while because that's how things are. but it's neither of their faults and and they're better friends after the awkward "trying to impress my cool crush" stuff is calmed down honestly, it's so nice to see communication like this in a kids show and so rare. wendy handled this so well and so maturely.

I honestly love how kind, awesome and considerate wendy is...she spent that whole time letting him admit to it on his own and when he finally does rather then saying he's the one that's to young, she treats it like it's her fault for being too old...

She plays Wendy's part perfect, still the most awesome girl even when she breaks your heart. Everyone can relate to having a crush like this growing up.

The fact that she doesn't want to end their friendship over it is honestly the best. Especially when she says how much she cares about him.

I love this scene for a number of reasons. For one, the obvious, it finally gives some closure to this subplot. For another, just how it was written and animated. Wendy basically turned a gentle letdown into a subtle admission of her own. Yeah, obviously Dipper's too young for Wendy right now, but a few years into the future it wouldn't be too crazy. Wendy could have easily just laughed and him and told him it wasn't going to happen. Instead, she basically admitted he's the coolest guy she likes to hang out with and basically said if they ever stopped being friends she'd have nothing to live for (OK maybe not that extreme but a bottomless pit is a bottomless pit, right?)

Really cool scene all around. I wondered how the crew would handle this: whether they'd just leave it alone unresolved throughout the season or get them together. Neither happened, and I'm glad they found a middle ground. It's the perfect middle ground, really.

Can we just talk about how sweet and mature Wendy is? A lot of people would find it weird and kinda creepy to have someone younger crushing on them. Wendy was just really nice to Dipper and I really love their friendship.

I liked how in the end of this scene when Wendy was riding away, the fireflies danced around dipper. To me they kind of represent his relief and new feelings towards how He and Wendy can still be just friends. It was cute and magical at the same time :)
