That's the most fascinating thing about the Dune universe. It's a civilization that has achieved interstellar travel but relies exclusively on analogue technology.

When I was MUCH younger, I would have given my eye teeth for a Stiltent as some of the places I hiked were pretty barren and water was not an easy resource to find. Outside of a weigh station, that is. The irony is that it was on one of these hikes a buddy loaned me his copy of Dune and that was what got me hooked on the story.

The suits that they have are so incredible but at the same time their recognition of what it takes to survive in the desert

Thank you again for these videos covering details about the various aspects of Dune. Another piece of technology that is necessary around all the Fremen sietchs is the windtrap designed to reclaim the moisture in the air and funnel it to large catchbasins for later use by the Fremen. I thought it was interesting to note in Denis Villeneuve's depiction of the desert mouse, Muad' Dib, that it used its large ears as a windtrap in order to collect water for its survival.

I was disappointed that the movie didn’t show Dew Collectors. I found those opaque eggs of thermoplastic the most interesting piece of elegantly simple technology in the books. (Edit: Corrected Dew Precipitators to Dew Collectors)

Hi there. Have enjoyed all the episodes you've made on Dune lore. One request tho. Do you have any plans to make an episode dealing with the Fremen sand walk? It's a concept I've been fascinated with since reading the book. There is alittle clip of it shown in the newest movie, but it's very brief. Thanks in advance and keep up the great work.

Herbert certainly put a lot of thought into even the smallest detail of his world-building.

Dang man I can’t wait to see what Sietch Tabr looks like in part 2. I can imagine the Fremen engineers designing things like this in forges and all types of wild equipment.

I really hope there is a deleted scene of someone grimacing in a still suit the looking relieved and taking a drink from the still suit straw… implying that they just pooped in their suit and are now drinking the reclaimed water.

I have to say that for years I've believed that if you could make a stilsuit like a Fremen you would have a lucrative business, especially in countries with large deserts. After all, you can do weeks without food but only a couple days without water.

I thought the sand compactor was depicted perfectly in the movie.
