I preferred the old one visually. His sword, being a chain whip feels more sadistic - a weapon to draw blood from, and those wings that resembled banners or flags where a great accent to the character.

Now his sword is generic. They could've kept the spinal cord type sword. It looked more like a living weapon than this new one. Also the Bone sword looked way cooler than the new one. Also his voice. : /

For all intents and purposes, Original Aatrox wasn't Evil, he was merely the God of War and Bloodshed. He was neutral, often times he would pick the Underdog Army and help it out. "Rage against the dying of the light" was an outstanding reference.
New Aatrox is like, "You exist, I need you not to." I dunno, I just feel like Original Aatrox had more depth.

The problem with old aatrox is that riot never considered serious buffes for him, they just left him stagnant for years, then came up with a "rework" that first made him worst and then somewhat playable again, however if they kept him up to date consistently this rework would not have been necessary. I mean the problems that current aatrox suffer could be fixed easily, like reducing the blood stack count from 5 to 4, to reduce the time gap between his power spikes (he is literally defenseless unless he has 4 ready, cmon), or increase the duration of his passive, it's way to short and people can just walk away and let it wear off. But in my opinion, one of the best and mostly balanced change they could do to his kid is by adding an "immune to attack speed reduction" or "immune to grevious wound" effect while he ults. Since aatrox depends on
Damage,
Attack speed,
Healing,
adding an item that halves healing, reduces attack speed, protects from phisical damage and hurts back the attacker was what killed this champ.
Some people sais that in its current state he is broken, that if he gets ahead he becomes unstoppable, but isn't that the same for every other champ? While playing aatrox there are a lot of informations you have to take into consideration, every time u engage u must know for sure u will win that fight. If u have been rekt by an aatrox and now cry he is too powerfull, u most likely faced someone that plays him on a regular basis, cause u either hate him and says that he sucks or u main him and love him, because winning with him makes u feel great and this is why I played with this champ since I was level 15.

I welcome this rework, I will not miss the unpleasant stacking mechanics they added and the lack of "spammable" mobility he had and the revive passive that wouldn't revive (lmao best change ever amiright? Dx), the new model is kinda thicc, it is supposed to be seen from the top tho and it looks great, people complain too much about how his new abilities are basically

However some recycling becomes inevitable at this point, there are so many abilities that the "new ones" becomes weirder and weirder, i would say that his new abilities are more familiar to us than anything else.
But still, this rework wasn't necessary, all they had to do was to make more consistent changes to him, cause he hasn't appeared in the patch notes for like years despite everyone screaming his worthlessnes while only few mad fucks like myself played the shit out of him.
Imo, champions like mordekayser, cho gath and udyr needed this visual update, if not a complete rework, more than aatrox did
