Heads up…you’ll find the recipe for these Butternut Squash Steaks (with my butter bean puree!) EXCLUSIVELY in the SO VEGAN app 🔥

You can unlock this recipe - and hundreds more seasonal and delicious meals - with a 7-day free trial to the app ✌️

I’m back with another vegetable steak recipe - but this time with an Autumnal twist!

Butternut Squash is one of my favourite seasonal ingredients right now - and IMO there’s no better way to enjoy them than charred, roasted in herbs and spices - and served with a creamy butter bean puree.

Big love, Ben 💚

For the life of me, I can't understand why people get so upset over calling this steak.

The meanings of words drift and change over time. There was once a time when steak was literally anything — often, but not necessarily meat — roasted on a stake over a fire. Steak and stake have the same etymological root, and what people call steak now is not what it used to be. And wow, it turns out, that process continues.

If you have a flat slab of something comestible that looks somewhat like what people generally call a steak, and it resembles other recipes that are generally called steak, why can't it be steak? Nobody's up in arms about salmon steak. Why should anyone get upset over veggies either?

And for that matter, meat didn't always refer to animal flesh. It was once any calorific, edible portion of a food product, separate from pits, bones, skins, or shells. Nuts have meat, for example. It was only fairly recently that its meaning narrowed, but why should it stay that way?

I swear YouTube is suppressing vegan influencers. They used to get TONS of attention (even non-vegans find the content super interesting and cool). This guy is top tier. He deserves the views.

Normally I love your channel for the food, it always looks so amazing but today I'm just loving the passive-aggressive "because the dictionary says I can" 😂

Came to your channel because of the Cauliflower steak reel, but seeing there's more, I'm gonna stay. Good job !

can’t wait for the comments to again be filled with people mad at you for calling something what it is

I love the look of that dish and I’m a meat eater - only in shepherds pie and cottage pie 👌can’t stand big chunks of steak or pork though, just puts me off 🤮

Even if you eat meat, who wouldn’t want this, at least on the side of like some fish or chicken?

Looks delicious, but it doesn't have a good amount of protein. Not every dish needs to have protein, so why mention it?
