Howard Schultz Says Starbucks Will Never Engage With Union

Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz has no plans to ever negotiate in good faith with Starbucks Workers United, the billionaire said Thursday. The statement marks a significant and potentially illegal shift in the company's public statements about its relationship with the labor union that has organized nearly 300 stores and counting in less than a year's time.

During a live interview with the New York Times, Schultz blasted the union as a "third party," and when asked whether he could ever see himself "embracing the union" as part of a company-wide transformation, Schultz offered a blunt one-word response: "No."

He thinks it's fair to negotiate with suppliers and contractors for prices and fees, but he won't negotiate for wages and benefits with his employees.

A union isn't a third party, it's the workers.

Wow, even as a corporate ghoul, this is terrible PR. Shareholders should want to get rid of Howard. But, for everyone to see, this is good stuff

He would prefer to keep the workers weak, separated and under its control versus strong, together and with actual leverage. He wants to continue to extract the wealth generated by the workers and shower himself and other C-level execs with stock bonuses and insane salaries/benefits. It's all about the money and people like Howard want to hoard it for themselves instead of paying a fair wage and offering benefits that provide workers with dignity and security.

This now former customer is disgusted by the company and Mr. Schultz in particular.

Alot of folks may no longer want to 'engage'
with Starbucks for their daily cup of Joe .
Ahh corporate greed.
Good luck with that.
Labor laws do still exist...🇺🇸

He says "3rd party". Why pretend you have just 2 parties when you have a company, if you want to pretend you deal directly with workers then change the name from "Starbucks" to "Howard" or "Shareholders"

“We have a different view” is a code for: we want to pay them as low as we can get away with and extract as many hours, minimum benefits as we can

I’m a Starbucks customer I would love to get my coffee from a union shop. Matter of fact think I’ll just start getting my joe from 7-11 or at home.

If you change the words “customer experience” to “corporate profits” it gives you a more perfect picture of what Howard is actually after.

“I just don’t think workers should have rights” Howard Shultz. I love how he just squirms and does everything to change the subject. In no way would a union ruin or effect the customer experience that’s a total deflection. It would only hurt his pocketbook.
