Northstar California first opened in 1972, when the Douglas Lumber Company originally owned the land and named it Timber Farm in 1967, and was later acquired by Fibreboard five years later. The resort currently has 20 lifts with a top elevation of 8,610 feet. Numerous restaurants, stores, hotels, and residential units make up the base area of the resort.
