California State Parks Environmental Scientist Lisa Andreano will introduce us to California Fire Ecology. We will discover how different types of fire effect the environment, and how plants and animals in California are adapted to withstand and even thrive with fire!

Lisa’s love for the outdoors was fostered from a very early age by her mother. Lisa graduated from Cal Poly SLO with a B.S. in Ecology and Systematic Biology and is now working toward her Master’s in Biology, studying lichen ecology. Lisa has been a State Park Environmental Scientist since 2003 and has been involved in estuary and dune restoration, watershed management, biological resource inventories, wildlife monitoring, and forest and fuels management. She helped build the district wide prescribed fire and forestry program. She has 12 years of prescribed and wildland fire experience and is part of the State parks State wide fire management team. She is a prescribed fire burn boss and fire cadre instructor. In addition to her State Parks career, she has spent 16 summers working on seabird research in Alaska, and she is an adjunct professor at Cal Poly for the Forestry and Natural Resources Management Department.
