This misses the point, the constant being that the financial sector decides who runs the country, not voters.

One lesson from history is to repeat the faults over and over again until nothing can be done to solve them

Also 1964 was a crucial year. When Labour just scrapped in with a majority of 4. And Wilson had the Ian Smith and the Rhodesia problem to deal with. Just like Brexit enough to drain anyones energy.

I wonder why the 3 day weekend has never had the same amount of infamy as the winter of discontent

One could note so many parallels between these two election years - 1974 was the first after the UK's entry into what would become the EU, while 2024 was the first after the UK left the EU; also, both years featured elections whose results were disproportionate, with 1974 (February, anyway) seeing Labour win more seats despite the Conservatives getting the most votes, whereas in 2024 Labour won with the smallest share of the vote in electoral history (and it will long be noted that Reform UK, despite polling the third highest share, won less than 1% of the seats). Having not been alive in 1974 I can't comment on which year I think was more difficult to live in, but I was around in 1997 and I feel that Labour's victory in that year was more decisive and positive than in 2024. And, at least pre-Iraq, Blair's government did well enough to maintain public confidence when the following election was called in 2001, while Starmer's has already done enough in less than a year to make it almost certain that Labour will lose the next time round.
