In total they were 40 passengers and 5 crew members, and the plane crashed on Oct. 13, 1972. They spent 72 days in the Los Andes Mountains, and it was on day ten that they resorted to cannibalism to survive. They not only survived the extreme cold and starvation but also two back-to-back avalanches on Oct. 29, which killed even more of the remaining survivors. Nando Parrado and Roberto Canessa walked 38 miles without any mountaineering gear until they found a man in horse back that was able to alert the authorities.

There’s a movie called “Society of the Snow” on Netflix which was nominated for many awards and was even approved by the survivors of the wreck.

Fun fact: The survivors were actually part of a rugby team that was going to play in Chile.

At first when the media find put they had to resort to cannibalism to survive they were lashed as monsters, years later when the survivors got to freely tell the full story they started to being praised

For more context this is a more detailed story

So the plane crashed in the mountains. They were unsuccessful to signal for help so they eventually ran out of supplies. They tried eating everything on the plane even the seats but there was nothing good to eat so they would have to make a crucial desition. They would either have to stay or try to reach humans. Now this wasnt any mountains this are really big mountains that would take weeks to get out of. They choose to stay but to do so they needed to eat something so they ate the dead bodys. They also made an agreement that they would donate their body as food if they died. Its been 2 mounths. A deadly avalanche killed lot of surviors so they had enough. 3 surviors got some "food" and went through the deadly tiring mountains. When they finally made it out they were very VERY lucky and managed to find a person on a horse. The person was on the other side of a river. They couldnt swim due to lack of energy so they screamed as loud as they could and the man luckly heard them and all the surviors reaming were saved. This was very lucky since if the man wasnt there they wouldve had to walk a lot more to get to humans and all the survivors would be dead

Hope you understand better how this brutal story❤

Never judge survivors, you will never know what your mind and body is willing to do when it comes to survival.

Fun fact about this. They actually made me do an assignment based on this acident and i made the right choice by hiking because back in the 19's technology was so terrible that you being found would be quite hard. Nowadays in the 20's you will be found within a few hours tho.

I can’t imagine the mental trauma the survivors have from having to eat one another. I hope they are doing well today.

Actually, there's a movie about that. My dad worked in that movie, and he told me that they also starved the actors so it would look more realistic.
