on dec 19, 1969 I was security police guarding those C-130's when rockets started landing near me. 243AM. It changed me forever.

My dad flew Air Rescue back in 67-68. He was stationed at Nha Trang. My Dad is my hero! Mr. Rick, you and all the other Men and Women who served are my heroes. Thank you very much. Rest in peace Pops!

Thanks batterymaker
I can remember getting back to the barracks one day and a friend who was on the top floor, asked me to follow him up to his area. He show me a bullet hole in the middle of him bunk, it had come through the roof. Good think he was not in it at the time.

I was stationed at Clark in the autopilot shop. I was also TDY at Tan Son Nhut Jan-Mar 68. So we crossed paths there on the Rebel Ramp. Was surprised to get a letter from the VA in early August 2023 stating that my time there may have caused a disease out of a list of diseases in the PACT act. My Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma was on the list. Hope you are disease free.

Tan Son Nhut was a welcome place to be on the last day of my Viet Nam tour as I boarded the jet and looked at all my fellow Army, Navy, Marines who had given much but received no thanks for fighting the Viet Nam war, US Navy veteran was I who was happy to leave the country, alive.

I was a medic stationed at Tan Son Nhut 377th USAF Dispensary emergency room from 1968-1969 and consumed quite a few gallons of Ba Muoi Ba beer in Saigon. Mostly because it was cheaper than the black market Bud and also it pissed off the bar owners. Formaldehyde? No. That started with the movie Good Morning, Vietnam. If you give a mainstream beer drinker a real beer (microbrewed ale, a hoppy ale like an IPA or even a Guinness) they will say it tastes like chit. Thanks for posting your life saving story! Welcome Home!

Rick,
Wow...saved by fate. I know you can't count how many times you've thought about that over the years. It was just meant to be. There's no other explaination...and I'm glad of it.
Terrific vid, my friend. I, and you can bet others, would like to see a few more like it.
Take care.

Regards,
John

Thanks for your service Rick. Every time I think I have had a bad day at "work", I just remind myself how SPOILED ROTTEN I am.
Love your videos!

I was in the Navy stationed at communications stations in the Philippines and Taiwan from 63 to 67... Those were 'interesting' times...

Has to make you wonder just how many pics, film footage & stories are still locked away in footlockers, trunks & boxes. It would be a shame to lose all that stuff when there are so many more stories to be told. Cheers!

Vote for the candidate who will protect America, not appease our adversaries, Peace through strength, as Reagan once said, we are in dangerous times, and need a President who actually understands our position for protecting our great country.

Before Tan Son Nhut my base was Malmstrom Air Force Air Base just outside of Great Falls Montana. There because we guarding Minute Man missiles, we were called Sac trained killers. I thought it was funny. We carried M-2 carbines.

Hi Rick
I’m a great believer in the notion of the ‘butterfly effect’, that is, that one tiny and seemingly unrelated event can have profound and unforeseen affect on future events elsewhere. I don’t know who or what controls it, I guess I call it fate; the desire to take a picture inadvertently saves your life... what you’ll never know of course is how your presence on that flight may have influenced the situation or if the die was set without your intervention.
Kind Regards ... Andy

I was also TDY from the PI in fuel systems. I worked on the C130 fuel tanks the same time as you in the 834th air division. I think we took a lot of the same pictures around the work area. I also took a picture of that C130 with the nose by the fuselage and of the work area across the runway. My brother was there at the same time working on combat weather equipment. Sure brings back memories!

Great Video, we are all lucky for the divine intervention you received! As per one of your previous videos, I purchased a working Leader 508A Oscilloscope like the one you did the tutorial with. I now need to get a Jug of the "Bom-ity-Bom" so I can learn how to use it!

I'm a Navy man and hopped a ride on a KC-130 just after it left the ground the lights went out inside the cabin and I heard someone up front yell "don't lean up agaisnt that Panel". Well the lights were only out for a few seconds but it kinda scared me. Anyway at least we made it through the war and got home safe.

I enjoy all of your videos, but this has to be one of the best. I would certainly like to see more on this subject.

Just to show things don't change much, My son is close to completing his advanced individual training as a Satellite Communication Installer and Maintainer and most likely will be deployed to Afghanistan over the summer, instead of starting college this fall like he was supposed to. His unit has not been deployed in several years, so he goes... college or no
