A big mistake here is thinking apple wont get paid if they link out. The court said apple still needs to get paid.

It seems Epic wants Apple to turn from a store into a mall, and we all know what happens to the smaller stores in malls. Most analysts are making Apple, and Google the bad guy how every if there were to be problems with some of these third party payment systems, the headline would be “Apple” or “Google” has a payment problem.

The only problem being one payment system…
Question of 15% or 30% cut….it’s completely fair…If you had a business and a huge customer base you will charge a percentage of profit..just like every store in the world. If Sony or Lg wants to sell a TV or Blu-ray player from your store…you will keep a margin of profit for yourself..

7:42 nope, just like eBay did not cut the fees when they got PayPal booted from their marketplace. There was a 1% discount for customers:) Epic or anybody else will do the same, theyll cut a few percentage, enough to sway users but not cut 30% for sure

“In such a hypothetical world, developers could potentially avoid the commission while benefitting from Apple’s innovation and intellectual property free of charge. The Court presumes that in such circumstances that Apple may rely on imposing and utilizing a contractual right to audit developers annual accounting to ensure compliance with its commissions, among other methods. Of course, any alternatives to IAP (including the foregoing) would seemingly impose both increased monetary and time costs to both Apple and the developers.”
That sound to me even if developers link outside Apple’s IAP system, Apple can (and likely will) still collect its 30% commission.

Folks, go outside and live by yourselves. Just please don’t come back like early days when you need a platform like app stores.

WOW! It means that EPIC actually won! because they did accepted they had a breach of contract before the judge, so they were not persuing not to be guilty on that, but, to force Apple to allow sales outside the Apple Store... and they got it. A MASSIVE win for EPIC!!! Since 12 million dollars is like.... 12 cents, they win that in 1 hour of sales in the Epic Store.

Well the way I see it is, if you pay someone to use their billboard, and then decide to rent out the billboard yourself, you face consequences

No one has ever explained to me how iOS should be treated any different than Windows or Mac OS. If Microsoft had said in the 90s that the only way to buy software for the OS was through it's app store, they would've been litigated against, just like they were for pre bundling Internet Explorer.

I know this will be the stupidest comment on here but, In turn we’re not getting fortnite mobile back on iOS because apple has pulled old games that did better after people realized the company that made the game was making the money and not Apple.

Key Background. Apple removed Epic's game Fortnite from its App Store in August 2020 after Epic Games offered an external payment option for in-app purchases, which avoided Apple's 30% App Store fee and broke the company's rules.

I’m surprised apple have not acquired epic yet. They have so much money in the bank

You are delusional if you think it will be 30% less in alternative payment. In fact, I'm pretty sure most of them will be the same or only a little less since game companies are not stupid (especially in the long run). Also, the outcome writing from the count seems to suggest that even if Apple allows alternative payment, they will still get their cut anyway which means Apple loses close to nothing in comparison to Epic.

if Epic games hate apple and google so much, then dont use their system. Tons of games r not on mobile OS. If they want to use mobile platform, then pay those companies who facilitated their platforms...Simple as that... I dont see many pokemon games on my iphone? Yet best selling games generation after generations...
