By now you can spectate the bottom tiny kite image of JWST, through a far zoom telescope in the night sky, zenith between sunset and sunrise at its L2 spot.
It was already outrageous they had no scopes spectating and monitoring it, before reaching L2, NASA also nearly lost it, trying to expose it at the final stage rocket, where it lost orbit altitude, while attempting to head further out of the Earth orbit, yet still in a debree infested high exosphere, plus without a solar orbit stage ride of a rocket, it was left to *foot loose* to L2, maaking us all wait longer then we should've.

I think it orbits the moon as usual however it is not horizontal relative to the layer between moon and world... Because the sun and the world pull it through the center of the solar system. it might orbit the sun at the same distance with the moon but the temperature gets too high. L2 orbit is not symmetrical to the moon too.

Can someone explain how is JWST able to orbit L2? Since L2 is just an empty space. It means there is no gravity at L2 to pull JWST centrifugal force to make it stays in orbit.

My understanding, in order to orbit we need two mass objects, the gravity of the central object will balance the centrifugal force of the object around it, just like Sun and Earth.

Thank you so much for this. I have been trying to figure out for years how something could orbit one of the unstable Lagrange points, and your quick video explained it. I thought it would be orbiting it in the same plane, and it never dawned in me that it could orbit it perpendicular to the plane of earth's orbit. Do you know how fast it will orbit it, and how far away from it it will be?

Edit: I found the answer on nasa's site:

Isn't the actual Webb orbit in the shadow of the Earth every time? Otherwise, what was the purpose of the L2 orbit ?

Hi, in this simulation, the L2 point is shown orbiting always on the furthest point away from the sun. However, on other simulations, the L2 point is shown to follow the orbit of the moon. So the J.W. would not be held at a point away from the disruptive light and heat of the sum, earth, and moon.? thank you

What would be the thermal environment like at L2 point? Because satellite cannot see SUN. How Does it effect Satellite thermal system?
