How to Remove Noise From Your Amp

If you're rockin a high gain set up you probably want to know how to remove the noise coming from your amp. It's an inevitable issue in the realms of metal and hard rock. In this video I show you how to remove this noise using a Behringer HD400, a ISP Decimator II pedal, and a Boss NS-2. The Behringer wipes away ac hum and ground loops, the NS-2 removes pedal noise, lastly the Decimator gates your amp through the fx loop to help tame your high gain channel. By the time you're done with this video you won't be asking how to remove noise from your amp any longer.

This little (micro) guy Is a lifesaver. I was getting very loud buzzing noise coming through the hardware synth usb connection to my audio interface. I couldn't use the synth's VST plugin interface because of that. Behringer MicroHD HD400 completely eliminated the noise. I wasn't expecting that tbh.

Thanks for the review! In addition with a Noise Gate it’s very silent!

You still have an obvious 60hz hum that never goes away here, which means there's a ground issue somewhere, the most common being the WRONG POWER ADAPTER. Usually, it has to do with wrongly matched milliamps or mAh. Try switching them around once and you'll notice that different power adapters will make some pedals sound more quiet. Another thing is, incorrectly wired polarity within the actual wall socket. If it's wired backwards, this can cause all types of grounding and phase problems. You can also try certain power surge strips that will kill ground loop hums. Good luck..

I had a terrible ground loop within my pedal board and mixer in my home studio !
Just couldn't get rid of it so I had to use a gate but it was not a great idea !

Then I remember a friend had told me ages ago to cut the earth at one end of the audio cable so there was only the signal without the ground connected at one end of the cables !

The hum completely vanished !
Cheapest and easiest method by far !

PS

I didnt cut the mains ground cable !
I did it on the audio cables input !
The output audio is still grounded !

I have a similar problem. I connect my guitar to my laptop and whenever my laptop is connected to the power source is has a hum when I touch any metal from the system it is reduced. And when I remove the power supply it is greatly reduced. It is same with my mic but in it the hum increases when I go near my condenser microphone. Help me buddy

Awesome! May i ask you something? Whre i put this hum destroyer in my pedalboard chain? Right after my output buffer before the amp? I am using tc bonafide buffer. Thank you :)

Just to understand this better, you are essentially doing the 2 gate technique, one in the fx and one in the front. Then killing the hum with the 400?

Hello thank you for the video. I have hum issues with my electric guitar in my audio interface, do you know if I can directly set the guitar in the input and the audio interface in the output? Is it gonna solve the hum issue? Thanks!

check your power supply source too that also adds up to the amp hum, tried the pedals with just batteries?

Man... this may be my solution. I got this roaring single coil strat that turns everything into an Airbus 380 motor. Jeesus. I unplug it and even the most nasty and cruel hi gain amp goes quiet, so obviously the issue is the strat. If i put a gain pedal in between, the Airbus turns into an Saturn V rocket.. Tried a power conditioner. Dont work. Tried noise gates, but they kinda sucks the pristine tone. I'm gonna give it a try. You think that strat>hd400> amp could work? Thanks.

Question for you - as a noob I'm a bit confused about the channels & correct inputs/outputs. For example, if I'm using this between my mixing desk and compression unit, to stop the ground loop, do I need to use both inputs and outputs? Some sites say only the inputs are stereo jacks and the output has to be via 2 x mono cables. If that's the case (and you have to use both outputs) can you just use one TRS cable for the input, or will you need to double up and use a two mono to TRS splitter into the mixing desk insert? Hope this makes sense.

I'd like to hear a comparison between the Behringer and the Electroharmonix Hum Debugger.

My Behringer usb interface generates some hissing but it's not that buzzing as in amps or when turning up the gain knob but more like a dial up sounds like even when the knob is at 0. That's caused when I use whatever guitar amp sims. And I don't even have to plug in the guitar or mic to hear that hissing. And even if I use the noise gate there's still that weird hum in the background while playing. I dunno if that's a ground loop or whatever but touching the interface surface won't make it away.

Someone said this unit should help so I'm ordering it rn, hope it solves my issue.

From time to time I also have hum problems when playing in clubs with older electricity. he Behringer worked for you. Not for me. It did nothing. In the meantime I have also the morley humno with also did not solve my problem. I would say these products can help but not help in any situation. The Morley stuff is so expensive, also Palmer (the PLI-01 is bye the way the only product which worked in one situation) so Behringer is ok also Pyle. Greetings George
