I think it depends on the venue/genre to be honest. I’ve seen singers do their best David Lee Roth impression to a crowd that just was not into it…and it’s painful to see someone put that much effort in to not get it back in return……And also as a gigging musician I’ve done the same 🤦‍♂️ 😂

At a moment I play in a doom metal band and our 12min songs are boring. But we use death/black contrast riifs to keep things a bit more interesting. It works fine live - people get a while to breathe between mosh parts.

I've had many conversations about the entertainment value of music. I've told my kids many times that if they have a passion for music but not the talent, then buy a cape and a flamethrower.... people pay money for that....

If the music isn't good enough to entertain you then maybe you're a bit entitled. My old guys like Meshuggah "can't" move around as much now. Still love it, still entertained. Come for the music, stage performance is a bonus. Besides the pretty lights aren't enough for your low state of consciousness? Quit bitching and be grateful, or politely and quietly leave =)
