The Oregon Trail Card Game from Pressman Toy

Product Info: Pressman Toy has reinvented the classic '90s computer game in a new format, The Oregon Trail Card Game. The goal is simple: make it to Oregon’s Willamette Valley alive with at least one member of your wagon party. The game starts just like the original: by writing down the names of the members in your wagon party. Next, to set up the gaming area, space out the start (Independence, Missouri) and finish (Willamette Valley, Oregon) cards approximately three feet apart. The rest of the cards are organized into three decks: supply cards, trail cards, and calamity cards. Each player is dealt five trail cards to start. Supply cards are dealt based on the number of players playing: three cards for six players; four cards for five players, and five cards for two to four players. The rest of the supply cards become the supply shop, sorted by type.

The game begins by placing down any trail card. Then players take turns determining the fate of your party. On any given turn, players can play a trail card, roll the dice, or use supply cards to prevent a calamity. Trail cards can only be played if they properly connect to the previously played card. If, you can’t play anything, draw. Playing off the original game, some trail cards may give further instructions. If you draw a river crossing card, you must roll the dice to see if you can cross. If you draw a card that says “space bar”, draw a calamity card. Calamity cards range in severity, from a case of the measles you can quickly cure to a broken wagon wheel to instant death by snakebite. Calamity cards can also only impact the drawing player or your whole party—it’s simply the luck of the draw. When a party member dies, that player can will two of his/her supply cards to another player; the rest go back to the supply shop. The game continues and ends when either one player reaches Willamette Valley or the last surviving player dies.
