Harbor Freight Budget Socket Rails Are Now Junk!

Harbor Freight changed vendors for their cheap socket rails and now they do not hold sockets at all and are completely useless and should be recalled.

The Wal-Mart Hyper tough tails are actually really good. Made in Taiwan. $10

Someone else's complaint was "it's too hard to get the sockets off the rail quickly, they hold on too tightly", lol.

Tried them myself about 3 weeks ago same problem! I tossed them, went to Lowe's and bought new ones on sale much better! Worth the extra money!

They are total junk. Their US General rails are good but overpriced. I personally use the Husky brand socket rails from Home Depot and they are like $6 a piece for 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2.
Best value in my opinion for a lifetime rail. 👌

I bought a bunch of the older rails several years ago.
They were junky, but at least they worked.
Glad I stocked up before this happened.

Get tekton socket rails, they won’t cut you 😂

I was going to pick some up just for the clips... To use them on a different four rail tray. Not now. Thx.

I personally hate these type of socket rails. I used the Craftsman versions and they always dropped sockets. When Craftsman started to offer the plastic black rails with detents, I changed over all of my socket rails. Yes, these have some negatives too but at least they do their primarily function which is to hold the socket. Now I use a combination of the Ernst/Tekton rails for impacts and the Gearwrench and Craftsman for Chrome. If I wanted to spend the money, I would switch them all over to the Ernst because of their locking tray. This allows them to sit upright and not shift when sliding in the drawer and then released for portability. Great concept.

Thanks for saving people from wasting time with those.

I agree that the metal socket rails are junk. The ones I bought about a year ago wouldn't hold sockets, just like you show. I dumped them and started using the plastic rails which are a lot better, but over time the plastic tabs (whatever they are that hold the sockets) will get brittle and sometimes break. I keep an extra set handy to replace the occasional broken one.

I recently bought several HF socket rails for Torx and Hex bit sockets and they work fine.

HF is like McDonalds.
Never disappointment when you know it's going to suck going in.

I like the Ernst socket rails the best, they are pricey compare to the Harbor Freight ones. But they are not in the same category .

Wish you made this video a few weeks ago. I got some and they are absolutely horrible.

The plastic ones they sell are decent for the price

Glad I watched this. I was planning to get one soon. Guess I'll get one at walmart.

Get the ones sold in a set in a box, they’re still good last I checked.
