This is really the best version of this piece. I've heard every other recording (of which there are very few), and every one fumbles a key moment at 1:40. At first, the strings appear to be the melody, with the brass playing on every beat, seemingly the harmony, but as the music progresses, the brass begins to become the melody and the strings become the backing harmony! I get chills when I listen to it.

Every other recording mutes the strings down so far that you can barely tell they're there, and blares the brass. It completely ruins the effect. Frustratingly and honestly enlightening about classical music is the fact that no other conductor considered this

This unfinished symphony (1877-78) was finished and orchestrated (in some parts) by composer Vladimir Blok (1932-1996).
