Hey there my name is Poppy and I make travel content about people and cultures from around the world, not just the “touristy” side of travel. Because I believe TRAVEL IS NOT about the places you visit, IT’S ABOUT THE PEOPLE you meet along the way. Join me on my journey if you agree!

the issue is not you poppy, you've changed and that's fine....the problem is the content of your channel, people probably want to see you as a travel vlogger around the world...not living the hippie life in a van in this channel ultimately is yours so just do whatever you think is good to energize and give good vibes to your audience!

I watched the whole video.

I know exactly how you feel in this vid even if you find it hard to put into words. I've gone through a similar process. I started creating travel videos 4 years ago, but after 3 years (1 year ago) I slowed right down and only uploaded around 1 video per month because I felt the same and still do, not motivated to upload.

I'm honestly not sure what the answers are but you are right about changing, you need to change to stay sane, to stay creative... which unfortunately is not what the algorithim or audience wants. Audience wants consistency and algorithim wants watch time. But, if you keep uploading the same stuff over and over you will go crazy, even if the content gets views you'll still go crazy because you'll either feel creatively bored... or mentally burned out.

I started making travel videos 4 years ago and back then I was watching FunForLouis and considered his videos the gold standard for travel videos. Since then, over 4 years, his subscriberbase has stagnated on 2 million, his views have decreased from 100, 000 down to about 20, 000 and he himself has taken breaks and expressed uncertainty about what to do next. Now he seems to have changed from this transient world traveller person to a kind of pro-sustainable living hippie person who wants to live in treehouses and in communes.

I've done my 4 years without giving up my day job, but I think it's so much more difficult for people who make the digital nomad thing thier lifestyle. So difficult because of the challenges you face in terms of marketing yourself, keeping up with youtube, and the other non video challenges of just day to day living.

When I look at my top performing videos, it makes my heart sink, because the "artful" videos I put heaps of effort into don't get watched and instead it's those evergreen how-to/instructional videos that seem to do well. But... that is actually useful to know, it tells you that there is value in making evergreen videos, because they will keep performing for you (people watch them) even in "the bad times".

The hardest question I've found to ask myself is, will I be happier 1) making videos I want to make... but nobody will watch. Or 2) making videos I hate, but the audience wants. That's a tough one to mull over. And what I'm discovering is there is actually a 3rd option which sounds aweful but I believe it it worth considering... 3) Stop making videos for an audience and do something in your life that really really makes you happy. And mabey that 3rd option doesn't even involve any video cameras.

Option 3 sounds like quitting, but then I look at several youtubers over the years who seemingly dropped off the face of the earth (they just stopped uploading) and I think a lot of people actually change so much as people that they go with this option... it's the only way I can explain them stopping youtube uploads alltogether.

I watched a few of Poppy's vlogs.... Poppy's accent has a thicker Aussie accent than Terri Irwin and she's been there for 30 years?

The "state of discomfort" is actually facts. I ABSOULTELY understand that. I'm glad you mentioned that and how it pertains to your journey. I relate

Thanks for the update, been around a while and you didn't post much content lately... But figured you were living and loving travels! Always nice when you share with us all.

Hey Poppy, ultimately it’s your channel. Do what makes you happy!! Like you said people change and their goals and perspective on things change, so if the YouTube channel isn’t an important that’s totally fine

I've always enjoyed your travel videos and how you presented places so professionally and with so much information. I really learned a lot about new places because of your videos. The world is a bit messy right now. It seems most travelers aren't posting regularly for obvious reasons. You do you. If you come back stronger, Awesome and high five! If you come back and you've moved on from this, I thank you for everything you've taught me and all the places you explored for us viewers. I always felt like I was part of your travels which made it fun!

Stay safe.

I think in response to the first part of your video, talking about your struggle to post, I think you're feeling what's been called "COVID fatigue, " not a physical tiredness, but a mental, psychological one. It's a tiredness that creeps up on you without warning and it drains you. To me, the fact that ANY content creator on YouTube is still making videos is impressive, and for me, the content you've been making has been so enthralling to watch.
As for what do we, or I, want? Personally, the number one thing I would want from you is to be happy. Be happy with what you're doing. Be happy with the content you're putting out, the energy you're putting out, the side of yourself that you're showing. I honestly love where you've come, what you've changed into, since it's so different from anything I see in my life. And yes, you look happy, and it makes me happy to see you happy.
If you want suggestions on what to make, I love your van-life videos and seeing the friends you've been making in Australia, but bottom line, again, I think you should make content that you enjoy.
I hope you find this helpful. I'm wishing nothing but the best for you, a lot of love, light, safety, and joy. Blessings from the U.S.!

I would LOVE to see some of your stuff from Australia & New Zealand - here in NZ we feel a bit cut off from everything, especially right now, so it would be incredible seeing an adventurer like you showing us some love. I first discovered your channel when I was considering moving to Shanghai, and I saw your beautiful clip from Sanya - I had no idea that there were hidden Hawaii-esque treasures like that in China - you encouraged me to take a leap of faith and move to discover new worlds

You're doing you, and that's really nobody else's business.
That you've let people watch you live, was a gift from you, but you're not obligated to continue.
Do what you feel you want to, never mind what the onlookers want you to do.
Moving on to what is next for you will inspire others to take their leaps

This reminds me of when Madonna had an English accent.

Do what you want to do with your life, you don't need to ask us. But if you're not posting videos then maybe it's not your passion anymore. Being a hippie seems to be more enticing for you now so just go enjoy that. I wish you well!

The hippie scene maybe fun, but when you look back in 15 years you will see, those of your friends who spent more than a few years as a hippie and did not invest in their future, are the ones who truly stopped growing. There's a fine balance between immediate gratification and investing in one's future.

You definitely helped inspire me to travel to London by myself. First time traveling outside the country and by myself. It really helped me grow and see a completely new perspective. So thanks!

I started following you because your trips to China and other Asian countries were truly inspiring. Your travel mate, Jordan, was beautiful and you two made such a good team! Your Australian life is not as exciting and interesing for viewers like me. Sorry! I miss your "old" self without so many "drastic" changes. You seemed more mature and responsible back then ...
