Attraction tends to hold or pull both magnets center to center while repulsion tends to resist entry of the other like pole hence. This will not work!

Using the V8 formation, you may need to add a brace in the center to keep the spinning rods from bending. Otherwise you might have to use rods that are so thick they rob you of efficiency. Of course an extra set of bearings on the rods will also reduce efficiency, but I think not as much.

everytime the pole number increase so do the lock area... so if 1 doesnt work make it 8 will mean 8 new lock area even with properly balanced angle 1 lock will still be there to stop the whole system. the locking is indeed the hardest(where almost all engineer say its imposible)

You need a corresponding magnet or electromagnet at the crank to repel and attract the pistons in conjunction with the timing of the magnets at the top of the piston. It wouldn't hurt to put in a partial gear to assist the crank's rotation where the crank is weak in its rotation: This can also aid in maintaining timing mechanically. If it were me building this, I would use a hybrid magnet and electromagnet setup. I would use the electromagnet as a starter and have it reengage to assist and minimize wear at the helper gears. You can even mount a sensor on the gears to turn the electromagnetic assist into a mechanical and self-sustained timing feature.

If everything is equitative shape/orientation symmetrical, you''ll have same attraction/repulsion vectors of magnetic force. I may be wrong, but i dare to say it wont work. You need an unbalance mechanism to produce movement. I dont see it here. For instance, devices like a magneto-gravitic can takes advantage (like the rotating wheel project where a magnet constant attracts a steel ball and the ball by friction rotates the wheel... its just an example). Here, everything is symmetrical(surfaces, shapes, distances, etc)... So when you think on repulsion/attraction movement, you must think the opposite conterpart.

Good idea . Is the magnets the same polarity at the bottom stroke? Could you use repelling force at bottom stroke to increase power?

Try mixing up the magnets driving the megnetic pistons at the ends of each polarity so you have a more gradual flow from one magnetic pole to the next. This may help to reduce put back.

"Charging" a magnet is equivalent to producing a spring. A magnet does work afterwards if someone has invested work, for example pushing two magnets together with a common pole and then repelling them - that's the returned work from the previous investment of pushing. Likewise, a spring does work if someone pushes or stretches it. Therefore, the magnet (nor the spring) does no work from their production, but from the input work in their finished form. Over time, the magnetism decreases, just as the elasticity of the spring decreases. Production energy (energy supplied during production) is not work potential. It's the same as making a bicycle - it allows you to ride with the energy of your muscles. If the concepts are unified and the meanings are distinguished, you yourself will come to the realization that a perpetual motion machine with pistons is a completely useless waste of your time.

I have one question this reminds me of a conventional combustion engine will you need a lubricant for the “” piston “” the magnets that move up and down? Won’t it create heat and lock it up if there was not a lubricant?

Em seu modelo sempre faltará um pulso que anule o campo magnético cruzado e que é possível de se fazer com uma bobina que corte o primeiro campo e gere pulso para a segunda e assim por diante!

Just made one out of Lego technic in 30 mins. One problem is that the pistons had to be further away from each other so they won’t clog. The main problem is that the crankshaft doesn’t produce enough torque to turn the magnets at the end of the pistons. Doesn’t really work with all gear ratios that I used or what size piston strokes.

This is not going to work. You might get it to turn for a while under no load, until friction stops it, but as soon as you try to draw power out of this system, it will instantly stop. When you want to rotate those round magnets that push the pistons, you‘ll have to invest the energy that the piston produces, because the magnetic field of the piston will resist the rotation
